What would a mission- oriented and innovation-driven EU policy agenda imply for investment and funding instruments in R&I? How to involve citizens as co-creators and users also embracing social innovation? Is there scope for further synergies between the EU R&I framework programme and Structural Funds?

Working session III: Missions and the Digital
Introduction by Indrek Reimand, Deputy Secretary General for research, higher education and language policy, Ministry of Education and Research Response by Dainius Pavalkis , EU expert
The September 2017 Digital Summit in Tallinn highlighted the importance of an ambitious digital vision for Europe. In light of the debate on possible European wide mission oriented policy for FP9, the session focuses on how to implement ‘missions’ in practice, 14:00 – 15:15 using digitalisation of Europe as a case study. What possibilities does this new approach to EU R&I policy open up for achieving the digital policy goals of Europe? What kind of a digital mission or challenge would be relevant at the EU level, taking into account the global SDG setting? How to foster complementarity and synergies between EU R&I policy in support of digital policy and related national policies? How to effectively contribute to the framing of missions in view of FP9, especially from the perspective of small Member States?
