7. Answer the following questions. (e) Define CGS and FPS systems.

= The system of units in which length is measured in centimeter, mass in gram and time in second is called CGS system. It is known as the French system of units. The system of units in which length is measured in foot , mass in pound and time in second is called FPS system. It is also known as British system of units.

(f) Write the full form of MKS , CGS and FPS .

= The full form of them are : i. MKS = Metre Kilogram second ii. CGS = Centimeter gram second iii. FPS = Foot pound second

(g) Write the importance of measurement.

= The importance of measurement are : iv. Measurement is useful for selling and buying goods. v. It is essential for making and preparing food. vi. It is important for conducting scientific experiments.

(h) What things should we remember while writing the symbols of units? = The things that we should remember while writing the symbols of units are : (1) A period (•) should not be used after or between the symbols except the symbol is at the end of the sentence. (2) The unit should not be expressed in the plural form. (3) No space should be left between a prefix and the main unit. (4) A space should be left between the symbol of a unit, if the unit is made up of two or more units.
