Fingal PPN Newsletter: May 2021

This is the Monthly PPN Newsletter for May 2021. Please be sure to circulate this to all members of your group, you never know what they may be interested in! Our newsletter is divided into four sections:

On June 23rd this year we are delighted to host our Plenary. On the 23rd May Fingal PPN sent out Plenary invitations to groups inviting two representatives to the Plenary.

Fingal PPN Plenary Meeting

The Secretariat will provide an update on

• PPN Activity • Finance • Linkage Groups • PPN Handbook Review • Strategic Plan Review

This year will be the first online elections. We will be opening our online elections on the 25th June at 9.a.m. and closing the election 25th June at midnight. Elections: There are Eight Secretariat Vacancies

• One Community Pillar vacancy to be filled. • Four Social Inclusion Pillar vacancy to be filled. • Three Environment Pillar vacancies to be filled.

Elections: There are Five LCDC Vacancies

• Two Community Pillar vacancy to be filled. • Two Social Inclusion Pillar vacancy to be filled. • One Environment Pillar vacancies to be filled.

As a PPN, we provide space for community groups to grow and develop through our training supports. This year we are running the PPN Spring/Summer Training Courses 2021. Places are filling up fast, they are proving very popular.

Fingal Council appoints new Integration Officer

Fingal County Council has appointed Valerie McAllorum Byrne as Integration Officer, highlighting its commitment to inclusivity and progress throughout Fingal’s communities.

Valerie has been involved in the development of the new Fingal Integration Forum and has recently completed a review of Fingal County Councils policies in conjunction with the Immigrant Council of (ICI) to ensure that they were equality and human rights proofed as set out in IHREC public sector duty guidelines.

Fingal Community Development wins Excellence in Business Award

The Public Sector Magazine’s ‘Excellence in Business Award 2021’ was awarded to Fingal County Council’s Community Development Division for excellence in promoting community development within local communities.

2. Active Public Consultations and Notices N3 M50 to Non Statutory Public Consultation Scheme Update & Emerging Preferred Option

Fingal County Council (FCC) has been working in collaboration with Meath County Council (MCC) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), to develop a multi-modal transport scheme along a section of the N3 between the M50 and Clonee which has a focus on improving long term access to public transport and reducing the existing and future congestion issues.

Public Consultation on Identification of Bathing Waters in Fingal for Bathing Season 2022

Tens of thousands of people enjoy a dip at Ireland's pristine lakes, rivers and beaches during the summer seasons. What most swimmers do not know is that City and County Councils' must identify official bathing areas in their area every year so that they can be monitored for safety, water quality and their level of use.

Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission: Bursary Scheme Open for Applications

In 2021, as part of our work in promoting the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty, the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission is running the sixth and final year of our bursary scheme for prospective students of the Professional Diploma in Human Rights and Equality at the Institute of Public Administration.

4. Community Events and News Fingal County Council Unveil Community Get Active Initiative

Fingal County Council is calling on sports clubs and the local community to come together to help people get active. As part of a new “Active Club Challenge”, Fingal’s Sports Office has formed partnerships with Cricket Leinster, the FAI, and Tennis Ireland, to create an enjoyable way for anyone, but particularly those who may have struggled to get active during the pandemic, to make that step towards a more active 2021.

The six-week programme begins on Monday June 14th

Cycling Without Age

Cycling Without Age is a movement that started in Denmark in 2012 by Ole Kassow, he wanted to help elderly people get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a trishaw and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents. Fingal County Council are looking to roll out The Cycling Without Age Programme in three locations around the County. / Greenway, Skerries Coastal Walkway and St Catherine’s Park and we need volunteers to Pilot the Trishaws.

Fingal Integration Forum / Africa Day Celebrations:

The Fingal Integration Officer is currently supporting the development of the Fingal Integration Forum. They recently hosted Africa Day 2021 with funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs / Africa Aid. On the 25th of May Forum members went to Virgin Media Studios and helped Ireland AM celebrate Africa Day!

Blakestown Community School has been selected to join the Yellow Flag Programme in September 2021. The Yellow Flag Programme was developed by the Irish Traveller Movement and is a national programme.
