Now I have been entrusted with updating that chronicle. While obviously the emphasis will be on the events of the last twenty-five years - the most momentous period in the history of rugby union - as a tribute to the founding fathers, the first chapter of the original history will yet again appear. While it would not be practical to include a detailed history of the first 100 years chapter two is a brief resume of the achievements of the first fifty years and likewise chapter three embraces the significant events of the second fifty years in the illustrious history of one of Ireland’s great sporting institutions. There follows the detailed history and achievements, and they were considerable, of the last twenty five years. I owe a considerable debt of gratitude to many people for their help during the compilation of this book.     2018/19 Challenge Cup Pool Draw The Pool Draw for the 2018/19 Challenge Cup will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland on Wednesday, 20 June at 2.00pm (UK and Irish time) before the draw for the Champions Cup. The key principles and key steps integral to the Draw are explained below. Key principles • The 20 clubs which have qualified on merit from the TOP 14, Gallagher Premiership Rugby, the Guinness PRO14, the PRO D2, the Greene King IPA Championship and from the Continental Shield will compete in the 2018/19 Challenge Cup in five pools of four. • The clubs are divided into four tiers based on the qualification positions from their respective leagues, and on the Continental Shield. A draw will be carried out in advance of the pool draw proper to complete the tiers. • Each of the five pools will include one club from each of the four tiers. • Each pool will have at least one club from the TOP 14, the Premiership and the PRO14. • There will be no more than two clubs from the same league in a pool. • No pool will contain two PRO14 clubs from the same country. • Clubs from the same league will be kept apart until the Tier 4 allocation. • A club from the Continental Shield cannot be drawn into a pool which contains two TOP 14 clubs or two Premiership clubs. Challenge Cup qualification For the purposes of creating the tiers, the clubs are ranked based on their finishing positions in the TOP 14, Premiership, PRO14, PRO D2 and Championship leagues, or on qualification from the Continental Shield.

    RELIGION IN PUBLIC EDUCATION IN IRELAND1 PAUL COLTON2 Introduction The Irish education system is a crucible for social and political comment as well as controversy.3 The role of religion and religious groups in education is a dominant theme of that debate, as is the challenge of according each citizen rights afforded by Articles 42 and 44 of Bunreacht na hÉireann.4 This has been referred to as ‗a dormant crisis in waiting.‘5 The religious institutions are wrestling with the issues also.6 Religion and Education: A Cauldron of Debate The contemporary reality is remote from the vision put forward by Lord Stanley in 1831. He envisaged a system of national education in Ireland, which endeavoured ‗…to unite in one system children of different creeds.‘7 Today, the established educational framework is predominantly denominational in character. At the same time there are new religious groups (not exclusively Christian) either seeking their own schools or more multi-denominational schools. There is also a small, but vocal, group calling for a universal secular system of education.8 Others seek diversification of the numbers of patrons (religious and non-religious) 1 This paper will deal solely with the Republic of Ireland. A great night and a packed house in Gleeson’s for the annual SACA Table Quiz in January to raise funds for SAC TY Uganda programmes and CHEEERS run by past pupils Stu Garrett, Roisin Plunkett and Suzanne Byrne who are also active supporting healthcare in Uganda. We raised around €1500 and had a great night! In November we had one of the great nights in SACA history as the Alumni honoured our 9 living Olympians in a remarkable night at the College.

    Dear Parents, Friends, and Alums of Princeton Rugby, During the recent spring break, the Princeton Men’s Rugby team went on its 4th fully customized Developmental Rugby Tour hosted by the professional club Connacht, located in Galway on the west coast of Ireland. Galway is renowned for its beauty and charm. As Lonely Planet writes: “Brightly painted pubs heave with live music, while cafes offer front-row seats for observing street performers, weekend parties run amok, and more. Galway is often referred to as the 'most Irish' of Ireland's cities, it's the only one where you're likely to hear Irish spoken in the streets, shops and pubs.” Connacht is one of the 4 professional clubs in Ireland together with Munster, Leinster and Ulster. Connacht is currently top of the Pro 12 League and 5 of their players play on the Irish National team. The Princeton/Connacht Rugby Developmental Program was originally started 6 years ago by Richard Lopacki and Nigel Carolyn. Nigel runs the Connacht Rugby Academy, which trains young up-and-coming rugby players to become professionals. Nigel is also Head Coach of the Irish U20 National team. In addition to Nigel, Mossy Lawler and Ambrose Conboy, Connacht’s Elite Player Development Coaches from the Academy, led all our sessions addressing topics and skill sets to help us all improve our rugby structure and confidence.
