I started work at Waverley Council mid December and have the challenging task of filling the shoes of Leanne Johnston, and Helen Kemp. Leanne had been with Council for approximately six years, and has moved on to be the Bushcare Officer at Hornsby Shire Council. We wish her success and happiness in her new role. Luckily for Council Helen is still with us, and will be utilizing her skills in the role of Bushland Projects Officer. I am a local resident of Waverley, an active member for the Bronte Gully volunteer group, and I am very excited and proud to be involved in assisting our natural environment. My background is in project management, and more recently I have been on the path of rediscovery as I under took studies in Certificates were handed out to our volunteers who Ecological Land Management. Since then I have been worked for over 10 hours or more during 2008: working as a bush regenerator, including some time David Bassetti, Sue Bassetti, Jackie D’Arcy, Michael as a supervisor, and have experience working with Donnan, Chris Froissared, Stefan Gawronski, Anne indigenous coastal plant species Jackson, Paul Morgan, Darren Palmer, Andrea Pulford, Arthur Pulford, Alison Reeves, Fernanda I look forward to meeting everyone as I make my way Rodas, Brain Stanley, Glen Stevens, and Anne Terley around each group in the next few months. On behalf of Waverley Council I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy new year. A great day was had by all, with everyone enthusiastically getting the plants in the ground before a well-deserved BBQ lunch. Diamond Bay Diamond Bay celebrated their 6 th birthday in December. The rain looked like it was going to stop the day. However, it held off long enough for Sue, Mary-ann and myself to plant Acacia suaveolens and Hakea gibbosa. Followed by cake and tea on Sue’s balcony overl ooking the site, and coastline Bushcare Training The 2009 Bushcare Training schedule will be out soon. Brochures will be sent when available. Hugh Bamford Bushcare Group Today was another very pleasant day for regen with only a little cloud and a light breeze giving a local temperature around 25°C. Dazza returned from his epic cycling adventure up the coast with many tales to tell and we were glad to see Nance return once more. So we all got stuck in to the north end of the edge from the fence corner up to the track to the cliff edge. Nance tackled her favourite trouble spot underneath the old, expired (natural causes) Tea Tree. Pellitory, Flatweeds, Ehrharta and other weedy grasses continue to be problems here. Nance has transplanted some Commelina from the now healthy looking patch near the fence corner, so we will watch and try to help it grow. We need to look after the Warrigal Greens near here in the hope that they out- compete the weeds. The grass wasn’t cut and seems to be being taken over by flatweeds (mainly Plantago). So we had to rip off many flower heads that were on the edge of the lawn and therefore close to our native ground covers. Dazza and I worked the southern edge where the Pigweed ( Portulaca oleracea) has returned with big plants and lots of tiny seedlings. Also around here were some Onion Weed, Chickweed, Pellitory, Ehrharta, Couch, Flatweeds and good old, I mean bad old Four-leaf-all-seed. While working this part of the edge I did find a young acacia seedling coming up nice and healthy!!
