A nd new paintings by Ronnie Wood Surrey, UK, 26 October 2011 – Last night at Genesis House Gallery & Reading Rooms, two heroes of contemporary rock music came together to announce the launch of their new book: FACES 1969-75 . The legendary guitarist of the Jeff Beck Group, Faces and the Rolling Stones - Ronnie Wood - joined fellow band mate, former drummer for the Small Faces, Faces, and The Who - Kenney Jones - for a private celebration and unveiling of the Faces’ first official book. This November 2011, a new 8-week exhibition commemorates the book’s launch: Nearly 100 pages are blown up and reproduced on Genesis’s gallery walls. Visitors are invited to stroll through the Faces’ glory years from the band’s First Step in 1969 to their eventual split in 1975. Also on display are 5 new paintings by Ronnie Wood, seen for the very first time. Entitled ‘The Famous Flames Suite’ – the paintings capture the Rolling Stones in performance. ‘Making the book we went through so many photos it brought back memories and, when we were finished, I looked through it, and it actually brought a tear to my eye. I thought it was just me but then I spoke to Woody and he said exactly the same thing had happened to him.’ Kenney Jones ‘We were bored so much hanging around in places where they didn’t even know how to make a salad… It’s amazing how such great things can come out of being bored.’ Ronnie Wood Among hundreds of guests, Ronnie and Kenney were also joined by new Faces frontman, Mick Hucknall and artist Sir Peter Blake . -

It's only rock & roll | Pep Saña | Actualitzat el 14/09/2016 a les 16:55 Faces: Molt més que Rod Stewart i Ron Wood Faces, coneguda també com The Faces, va ser una de les bandes britàniques que, per alguna d'aquestes raons incomprensibles que té el rock, no va arribar a l' status de llegendària en comparació a d'altres grups del moment com The Who o The Rolling Stones, però van tenir una considerable influència a l'escena del rock. El seu rock en directe, amb classe i basat en la tornada a les arrels faria que moltes altres bandes estesin influenciades pels Faces, des dels Quireboys fins a Black Crowes, passant per Aerosmith, entre molts d'altres. Formada al 1969 de les restes dels Small Faces, als anys 60 els Small Faces, amb el lideratge d'Steve Marriott, va ser una de les bandes ?mod? més populars i un excel·lent grup de pop psicodèlic. Quan Steve Marriott els va deixar per formar Humble Pie amb un altre guitarrista, el senyor Peter Frampton, Lane, havia decidit continuar amb els altres membres dels Small Faces, escurçant el nom a, simplement, Faces. Ron Wood i Rod Stewart, tots dos procedents de The Jeff Beck Group, es van unir als anteriors membres dels Small Faces, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan i Kenney Jones per completar la formació. The Sock Hop and the Loft: Jazz, Motown, and the Transformation of American Culture, 1959-1975 The Commerce Group: Kat Breitbach, Laura Butterfield, Ashleigh Lalley, Charles Rosentel Steve Schwartz, Kelsey Snyder, Al Stith In the words of the prolific Peter Griffin, “It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white. The only color that really matters is green.” Notwithstanding the music industry’s rampant racism, the clearest view of how African Americans transformed popular music between 1959 and 1975 is through the lens of commerce. Scrutinizing the relationship between creators and consumers opens up a broad view of both visual and auditory arts. The sources we selected range from cover art and an Andy Warhol silkscreen to books on the industry’s backroom deals and the Billboard Hot 100 to a retrospective Boyz II Men album on Motown’s history and an NPR special on Jimi Hendrix for kids. Combining both sight and sound, we offer online videos, a documentary on jazz, and blaxploitation films. The unparalleled abilities of Motown’s music to transcend racial barriers and serve as a catalyst for social change through an ever-widening audience necessitates a study of Berry Gordy’s market sense and the legacy of his “family” in popular culture from the 1970s through today. First, the ubiquity of the Motown sound meant that a young, interracial audience enjoyed music that had been largely exclusive to black communities. The power of this “Sound of Young America” crossover was punctuated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s affirmation in his “Transforming a Neighborhood into a Brotherhood” address that radio’s capacity to bridge black and white youth through music and create “the language of soul” surpasses even Alexander the Great’s conquests.
