Faces: Molt Més Que Rod Stewart I Ron Wood It's only rock & roll | Pep Saña | Actualitzat el 14/09/2016 a les 16:55 Faces: Molt més que Rod Stewart i Ron Wood Faces, coneguda també com The Faces, va ser una de les bandes britàniques que, per alguna d'aquestes raons incomprensibles que té el rock, no va arribar a l' status de llegendària en comparació a d'altres grups del moment com The Who o The Rolling Stones, però van tenir una considerable influència a l'escena del rock. El seu rock en directe, amb classe i basat en la tornada a les arrels faria que moltes altres bandes estesin influenciades pels Faces, des dels Quireboys fins a Black Crowes, passant per Aerosmith, entre molts d'altres. Formada al 1969 de les restes dels Small Faces, als anys 60 els Small Faces, amb el lideratge d'Steve Marriott, va ser una de les bandes ?mod? més populars i un excel·lent grup de pop psicodèlic. Quan Steve Marriott els va deixar per formar Humble Pie amb un altre guitarrista, el senyor Peter Frampton, Lane, havia decidit continuar amb els altres membres dels Small Faces, escurçant el nom a, simplement, Faces. Ron Wood i Rod Stewart, tots dos procedents de The Jeff Beck Group, es van unir als anteriors membres dels Small Faces, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan i Kenney Jones per completar la formació. Jeff Beck Group era una d'aquestes bandes pels mes moderns, amants de la guitarra, del blues i del virtuosisme. El Jeff Beck Group era el projecte personal de Jeff Beck, que era (i és) un virtuós tocant la guitarra, amb una gran reputació dins l'escena del rock, nomes comparable, en aquells moments, a Jimi Hendrix i Eric Clapton. First Step (1970) El seu primer àlbum First Step (1970), obre amb una versió del Wicked Messenger de Bob Dylan, una declaració d'intencions on manifestaven que el seu so bàsic estaria ple d'arrels rock i blues. Va arribar al lloc 45 de les llistes del Regne Unit i al 119 als USA , gairebé simultàniament, Rod Stewart editava el seu primer disc en solitari, An Old Raincoat Won't Never Let You Down, amb una versió del Street Fighting Man dels Rolling Stones en el que col·laboraven alguns dels seus companys de Faces i que va passar una mica desapercebut (Rod, des d'un començament sempre ha tingut una carrera en solitari, no és a partir de que va deixar Faces). Long Player (1971) Gravat en part al Fillmore East de NY i en part a l'estudi mòbil dels Rolling Stones, conté l'extraordinari tema de Paul McCartney, Maybe I'm Amazed, va arribar al lloc 29 als Estats Units i al 31 al Regne Unit, era millor que el primer i més canyer. Les coses prometen i tots es mostren satisfets amb el que fan. Ara disposen d'una llibertat creativa molt superior de la que mai havien tingut. Rod pot fer coses sol i després girar amb una banda que li permet més del que fins ara ningú li havia tolerat. En el seu moment ells no li van donar importància, però el nou disc en solitari de Rod, Every Picture Tells A Story amb dos singles mega hits, la mítica Maggie May que el va portar al número u a tot el món, i Mandolin Wind, a més del cover Reason To Believe de Tim Hardin, aconseguia unes xifres de vendes molt similars a les de Faces i per tant a uns ingressos de quantitats de diners desorbitants, però comportaria una esquerda en el futur de la banda. To A Blind Horse (1971), un altre gran àlbum amb categoria de clàssic, rebut amb entusiasme per públic i crítica, per fi el tan esperat èxit, amb temes com Miss Judy's Farm, un cover del mestre Chuck Berry, Memphis i sobretot el single Stay With Me van ajudar a catapultar l'àlbum al Top Ten. És una obra mestra que recorda a l'estil Rolling Stone, amb una combinació de temes explosius i emotius, i en el que ressalta per sobre de tots Ron Wood, el seu so de guitarra li servirà posteriorment per entrar als Rolling Stones. El tercer disc dels Faces arriba al numero 6 als Estats Units i al 2 al Regne Unit, amb un fort increment de dates a les gires, el qui no hi va per veure Faces hi va per veure Rod Stewart. A l'àlbum però no es transmet pas aquesta sensació, ni rastre de cap tensió, es més, fa tota la pinta de que encara s'ho passaven molt be. Ooh La La és una gran nit de ?juerga?, amb moments memorables.
