10 - 16 SEPTEMBER 2018 ISSUE N: 83 Tbilisi Hosted 4th International Conference “World in 2018: Upside Down?” 11-12.09.2018 TBILISI • The McCain Institute for International Leadership and the Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC) co-hosted an international conference “World in 2018: Upside Down?” • The conference brought together Georgian and international leaders and government officials, including Assistant Secretary of State A. Wess Mitchell, President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and other high level foreign guests. • The goal of the conference was to keep Georgia high on the transatlantic agenda, and on track in its democratic progress and transatlantic aspirations. On the sidelines of the conference President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and other government officials held bilateral meetings. MORE OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger Paid His First Official Visit to Georgia 13.09.2018 TBILISI • In the frames of his first official visit OSCE Secretary General, Thomas Greminger held meetings with President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and other government officials. • Discussed: Enhancing OSCE-Georgia cooperation, Grave security and human rights situation in Georgia's occupied regions, Georgia’s peaceful conflict resolution policy and OSCE’s important role in this process. • Thomas Greminger also visited the occupation line and was briefed about the situation on the ground by the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, Erik Høeg. Georgian Delegation Headed by Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze Paid a Visit to the Republic of 10.09.2018 • In the frames of the visit Mamuka Bakhtadze met with Armen Sarkissian, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Parliament Ara Babloyan. • Discussed: Prospects of further deepening economic ties, as well as cooperation in the areas of tourism and energy. The Georgian side expressed willingness to share its experience in successful reforms. "We set very concrete goals further to develop and enhance our trade relations. We discussed such areas as transport, energy, tourism, culture, education, and innovation." Mamuka Bakhtadze underlined. • Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held bilateral meeting with his Armenian counterpart, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. 12-13.09.2018 • Within the frames of the visit the Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze held meetings with the President of the National Council of Swiss Confederation, Dominique de Buman, Head of the Federal Department for Foreign Affairs, Ignazio Cassis, Director of State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch and other government officials. • Discussed: EU integration of Georgia, bilateral cooperation between Georgia and in political and economic terms, business environment in Georgia and importance of Georgia as the corridor between East and West.
