The Code of Rubrics is a three-part liturgical document promulgated in 1960 under Pope John XXIII, which in the form of a legal code indicated the liturgical and sacramental law governing the celebration of the Roman Rite Mass and Divine Office. In the Roman Breviary, the Code of Rubrics replaced the previous rules. The “red” are the rubrics in the Roman Missal or the reddish color of the ink are the directions on how to celebrate Mass. The rubrics are spelled out in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. In other words, “Say the black. Do the red” to correctly follow the liturgical rules. To see what it looks like, turn to page 7 in the Hymnal Missal in the pews at Church, and look at the Introductory Rites. You will see the red ink (what we do) and the black ink (what is said). Hospital — Parish Office: 906-337-0810 Aug 1, 2021 4 Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, August 4th is the feast of St. John Vianney, who was a priest whom Pope Pius X pro- posed as a model of parochial clergy for his extraordinary devotion and life, which he committed to the church ministry. The priesthood is sometimes criticized and misunder- stood in many ways. So, I would like to share some information about priesthood. Why be a priest? Everyone who wants to be true to their self is looking for meaning From Father’s Desk... and fulfillment in their lives. For a Christian, the meaning of life is always connected with serving God in some way. Many people are finding meaning and happiness in their lives and are also serving God in the vocation of marriage. There are plenty of single people, who often because of their flexibility, can serve God and be happy in several ways. But many young men, even though they can see themselves serving God in the married or in the single vocation, nevertheless, still sense a different kind of service and lifestyle being offered to them as an ordained priest. Instead of marriage vows— vows of obe- dience and celibacy are given, as the priesthood is a special way of serving God’s people by being able to be both brother and more importantly, “father” to everyone who is ministered to.
