Yashwantrao Chavan MESSAGE Shri Yashwantrao Chavan, born on 12th March 1913 in a small village called Devrashtra in the then Satara district, hailed from a rural family with modest means. His father was a bailiff who succumbed to the epidemic of plague when Yashwantrao was only four years old. He was brought up by his mother under difficult circumstances. He grew up in a family where social and political reforms were a subject of daily debate and discourse. He spent about 15 months in jail but the period of incarceration turned out to be a blessing in disguise. There were many eminent scholars who were also in the same jail and they conducted virtual classes and turned the jail into a university. It was in the jail that he first absorbed knowledge of political ideologies and classical literature.

When India's independence was on the horizon, he won the election to the Legislative Assembly in 1946 and began his political career as Parliamentary Secretary to the Home Minister, Shri Morarji Desai. Soon he got involved in the vortex of movement for the Samyukta Maharashtra. Eventually, he became the Chief Minister of bilingual State of Bombay in 1956. He made a name for himself with his capacity for work, candid dialogue with opposition and administrative acumen. The State of Maharashtra was formed on 1st May 1960 and Yashwantrao became the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

In November 1962, he became the Defence Minister in the aftermath of the India-China conflict. He worked hard to restore the morale of the armed forces and to enhance his strength through modern weapons, better equipment, organizational changes and a harmonious relationship with the armed forces. The efforts paid off in the India-Pakistan conflict in 1965. Subsequently, he held the high offices of Union Home Minister, Union Finance Minister and Foreign Minister of India. In 1979, he became the Deputy Prime Minister of India.

He was a freedom fighter, effective parliamentarian and an astute administrator. He was a connoisseur of fine arts, a great lover of books and an author of acknowledged literary merit. He was very fond of watching good films, plays and stage performances of folk-art. The 'Yashwant' International is a tribute to the many-sided personality of Shri Yashwantrao Chavan. As a story structure, the film reminds a postmodern novel: fragmented, plot less and on first view: chaotic. Individual pieces can be rearranged and each one has its own life. In terms of genre, the film stands on the border between pseudo-documentary, dark comedy, post-punk (as an attitude) and video-art. The movie uses the expressive means of a documentary film, however, it is not a documentary, and it even contains some phantasmagorical and sci-fi elements and criminal moments, which it skilfully combines with grotesque animation and poetic visual language. The try of a man, who feels immigrant to his own homeland to make a documentary about his father.
