Yashwantrao Chavan Yashwantrao Chavan MESSAGE Shri Yashwantrao Chavan, born on 12th March 1913 in a small village called Devrashtra in the then Satara district, hailed from a rural family with modest means. His father was a bailiff who succumbed to the epidemic of plague when Yashwantrao was only four years old. He was brought up by his mother under difficult circumstances. He grew up in a family where social and political reforms were a subject of daily debate and discourse. He spent about 15 months in jail but the period of incarceration turned out to be a blessing in disguise. There were many eminent scholars who were also in the same jail and they conducted virtual classes and turned the jail into a university. It was in the jail that he first absorbed knowledge of political ideologies and classical literature. When India's independence was on the horizon, he won the election to the Legislative Assembly in 1946 and began his political career as Parliamentary Secretary to the Home Minister, Shri Morarji Desai. Soon he got involved in the vortex of movement for the Samyukta Maharashtra. Eventually, he became the Chief Minister of bilingual State of Bombay in 1956. He made a name for himself with his capacity for work, candid dialogue with opposition and administrative acumen. The State of Maharashtra was formed on 1st May 1960 and Yashwantrao became the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra. In November 1962, he became the Defence Minister in the aftermath of the India-China conflict. He worked hard to restore the morale of the armed forces and to enhance his strength through modern weapons, better equipment, organizational changes and a harmonious relationship with the armed forces. The efforts paid off in the India-Pakistan conflict in 1965. Subsequently, he held the high offices of Union Home Minister, Union Finance Minister and Foreign Minister of India. In 1979, he became the Deputy Prime Minister of India. He was a freedom fighter, effective parliamentarian and an astute administrator. He was a connoisseur of fine arts, a great lover of books and an author of acknowledged literary merit. He was very fond of watching good films, plays and stage performances of folk-art. Kering and the Festival de Cannes will present the 2017 Women in Motion Award to Isabelle Huppert The Young Talents Award will be presented to Maysaloun Hamoud International film icon Isabelle Huppert will receive the third Women in MotionAward presented by Kering and the Festival de Cannes. Isabelle Huppert has chosen director and scriptwriter Maysaloun Hamoud to receive the Young Talents Award. François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival de Cannes, and Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate of the Festival of Cannes, will present these awards during the official Women in Motion dinner on Sunday, 21 May 2017. Credits: Brigitte Lacombe For the third Women in Motion programme, official partner Kering and the Festival de Cannes will present the Women in Motion Award to French actress Isabelle Huppert. Exceptionally free-spirited and bold, Isabelle Huppert has taken many artistic risks in her career, and whilst acting with leading names, she has successfully established her own style in a variety of registers ranging from drama to comedy. She has pushed back boundaries with the strong and far-from-stereotypical roles that she has played since the early days of her career. Whether being directed by legendary filmmakers or by a brilliant new generation of talented filmmakers, Isabelle Huppert is one of the most inspirational figures in the world of cinema. Isabelle Huppert has in turn chosen to honour Maysaloun Hamoud by awarding her the Young Talents prize. In 2016 this young Palestinian director and scriptwriter made her first feature film, In Between (Bar Bahar), which chronicles the daily lives of three young Palestinian women living in Tel Aviv, torn between family traditions and their desire for independence.

When a panicked Benedictine nun appears at the clinic begging Mathilde to follow her back to the convent, what she finds there is shocking: a holy sister about to give birth and several more in advanced stages of pregnancy. A non-believer, Mathilde enters the sisters’ fiercely private world, dictated by the rituals of their order and the strict Rev. Mother (Agata Kulesza, Ida). Fearing the shame of exposure, the hostility of the occupying Soviet troops and local Polish communists and while facing an unprecedented crisis of faith, the nuns increasingly turn to Mathilde as their beliefs and traditions clash with harsh realities.
