What Their Stories Tell Us Research findings from the Sisters In Spirit initiative Sisters In Spirit 2010 Research Findings Aboriginal women and girls are strong and beautiful. They are our mothers, our daughters, our sisters, aunties, and grandmothers. Acknowledgments This research would not have been possible without the stories shared by families and communities of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls. The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is indebted to the many families, communities, and friends who have lost a loved one. We are continually amazed by your strength, generosity and courage. We thank our Elders and acknowledge First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities for their strength and resilience. We acknowledge the dedication and commitment of community and grassroots researchers, advocates, and activists who have been instrumental in raising awareness about this issue. We also acknowledge the hard work of service providers and all those working towards ending violence against Aboriginal women in Canada. We appreciate the many community, provincial, national and Aboriginal organizations, and federal departments that supported this work, particularly Status of Women Canada. Finally, NWAC would like thank all those who worked on the Sisters In Spirit initiative over the past five years. These contributions have been invaluable and have helped shape the nature and findings of this report. MAY Rob Eller, 4:15pm (PST) 20 Rob Eller is a signer/guitarist/entertainer who chooses to express his music as a solo, and has had a guitar in his hands since his 9th birthday. He fills up the rooms he performs in with the sound of a full band, paying extra attention to musical dynamics, continually finding new ways to express a song. -

JULY 2020 Anna: You will be performing in a public art park without further announcements. What is your relation to the audience ? And what role plays making a video of the performance? If there was no video would it still be a performance? Yama: performance is a creative investigation and process- whether there is audience or not video or not.The Video has nothing to do with it. I just like to experiment with the material. Taking intervall shots with fixed cameras of this 5 days process. I will edit it at some point to make it a video work. But this is another work. It is not the performance or a documentation of a performance. There is no documentation of a performance. A performance is only what happens in the moment of a performance. It happens on an energetic level mostly. It happens for everybody passing by or not passing by. It happened for the bees and bugs in the grass. It happens for the understanding of the artist itself. Monika: You use symbols of many different cultural and spiritual backgrounds - why? Yama: we live in a globalized world. We get the news from all around the globe. We profit or suffer from global markets. So obviously we also know about the different cultural backgrounds, which is the different spiritual and religious beliefs and symbols that form our perceptions on subconscious and conscious levels. -

The purpose of this research is to gain a better understanding of the Bangladeshi migrants who are involved in the culinary industry. I joined these two strands together and formed the kernel of my dissertation, which is to examine the layers of Bangladeshi migrant identities that are orchestrated through their culinary expressions in diaspora. My dissertation is based on six case studies from the UK, USA, and Hungary. Because of the diverse backgrounds of the case studies, there was an eclectic mix in their culinary projects, and I have analyzed them through the theoretical lens of food histories, food narratives, postcolonial studies, migrant identifies, and oral history. This research reveals how their culinary projects are coming to terms with a new reality, an expression of their hybrid identity, and at the same time, celebrating the connection with their homelands.
