Das Projekt „Forststeig Elbsandstein“ soll den Menschen die Natur näher bringen. Die Trekkingroute ermöglicht es den Besuchern in den Monaten April bis Oktober mehrere Tage durch die Wälder an der Grenze der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und der Tschechischen Republik zu wandern. Auf der deutschen Seite gibt es die Möglichkeit, in Trekkinghütten und auf Biwakplätzen von Sachsenforst sowie bei touristischen Partnern zu übernachten. Auf der tschechischen Seite liegt ein öffentlicher Campingplatz direkt an der Route. Der Forststeig Elbsandstein ist anspruchsvoll und nur für geübte und trittsichere Wanderer zu empfehlen. Er führt über 100 km in 7 Etappen linkselbisch durch einzigartige Landschaften der sächsisch-böhmischen Nationalparkregion, die für ihre weiträumigen zusammenhängenden Wälder, bizarren Felsformationen und mächtigen Tafelberge bekannt ist.
