He also played grade cricket for Sandgate-Redcliffe. Previously played for Northern Suburbs. 1st Grade Career: (season commencing) 1983 Adamson Charles Young Born:18 April 1875 in Neville’s Cross, Durham, England Bat:RHB Bowl: LSM Died:17 September 1918 in Salonica, Greece Son of Annie LODGE and John ADAMSON. His father and sons CL and JA Adamson all played Minor County cricket for Durham. His brother-in-law to Lewis Vaughan Lodge, who played international football for England He played Minor Country cricket in England for Durham from 1894 to 1914. He was also a rugby player representing Durham and England and touring Australia in 1899. After the tour he stayed in Brisbane and played grade cricket for Fortitude Valley. He gained a place in the Queensland team as a replacement, appearing in the match against New South Wales at Brisbane in November 1899. He enlisted in the 4th Queensland Mounted volunteers for service in the Boer War and on completion of that service returned to England. At the outbreak of World War 1 he again enlisted. Six weeks before the armistice of 1918 whilst on active duty with the Royal Scots Fusiliers he was killed and is buried at Karasouli Cemetery. He was educated at Durham School and entered into business with his father as a Stock and Share broker. Between 1986/87 and 1992/93 he played first class cricket for both Queensland and South Australia. He had previously played grade cricket for Wynnum-Manly and Eastern Suburbs, and later played for Eastern Suburbs, Gold Coast and Beenleigh Logan, He also played for Glenelg in South Australia. Died on board HMAS Orion as it was leaving Bombay Harbour, India and he was buried at sea. He was known as Charlie or Cassie. He was a nephew of C.G. Macartney. He made his first class debut for New South Wales in 1928-29. He moved to Brisbane in 1931 and made his debut for Queensland towards the end of the 1931-32 season, while his last appearance for the State was in 1936-37. In 1933-34 he was selected in an Australian XI to tour New Zealand but the tour was cancelled by the New Zealand Cricket Council. He commenced his cricket in Maitland and in 1925-26 appeared for the local team in the match against the touring New Zealand team. He played QCA grade for Northern Suburbs (A grade 1931-32 to 1934-35); Valley (A grade 1935-36 to 1936-37). At school he was captain of both cricket and football. He commenced working in banking and was granted leave for his first class debut match but on further selection was refused leave and so resigned, taking a position with Allan Kippax in his sports business. In Brisbane he was employed by McWhirters Ltd of Fortitude Valley and coached cricket in nets on the roof of the building as well as working in the sports department. He later set up his own sports store but the business failed. He then became a time keeper in the shipping industry and represented on the Federated Clerks Union. On Saturday afternoons he could be found pencilling for a book maker at the races. He enlisted in the army in 1941. 1st Grade Career: (season commencing) 1943, 1944 Armstrong William Anthony Born:2 May 1886 in Fernberg Road, Rosalie , Qld Bat:RHB Bowl: RM Died:27 May 1955 in Brisbane Son of Elizabeth Mary KILLEEN and George Joseph ARMSTRONG - he was the sixth child and fourth son. He always used the two given names listed but only William was registered. From 1907-08 to 1911-12 he represented Queensland in five first class matches and also appeared for the State team in the match against Fiji in 1907-08. In March 1919 he played in the match Queensland (capped) v Queensland Colts (uncapped). He played QCA grade for Toowong (A grade to 1919-20); Toombul (A grade ?). After missing the season of 1925-26 he played his final season of A grade with Valley in 1926-27, then dropping out of grade cricket to 1929-30 when he returned as captain the B Grade team before ill health forced him to cease playing later in that season. He played some games in the following season and returned to the captaincy of the Valley B Grade team in 1932-33 and then of the Reserve Grade team from 1933-34 to 1935-36. He was made a life member of the club in 1911. He was known as "Roco" and this name is used in most newspaper articles (Rockhampton was the birth place of his first wife, this may have lead to his nickname). Played for South Sydney 1894-97, Redfern 1896 and came to Brisbane from Sydney and played for Graziers, also representing Queensland in 1895-96. He again played for Graziers early in 1896-97 before returning to Sydney and representing New South Wales in the match against Queensland in April 1897. He returned to Brisbane in 1899 and played for Nundah in 1899-00 and 1900-01, Toombul-Nundah in 1901-02, and for Valley from 1902-03 to 1907-08 when he again returned to Sydney.
