REPORTS President & Executive officer Dear members, INTRUST SUPER CUP The 2018 season was one of success with the Tigers progressing through to the ISC grand "nal. Unfortunately, the Tigers were beaten by minor premiers the Redcli'e Dolphins 22-36 at Suncorp Stadium, extending the Club’s premiership drought to 27 years. The Club continued to recruit well over the o'-season, signing a small number of established ISC players, including 2016 Residents representative Brett Greinke and former West Tigers prop-forward Matt Groat. The Club retained the majority of our senior players including Jake Foster, Tommy Butter"eld, Jack Svendsen, Linc Port, Jarrod McInally and Shane Neumann. The team started slowly, winning only "ve of our "rst 13 games and were sitting on 12th place on the ladder. However, a mid-season turn-around saw the Tigers win eight of the remaining 10 "xtures to "nish in 5th place on the ladder. After being trounced 48-18 by the in the last "xture, the Tigers hit form the very next week defeating the Northern Pride 32-0 in , before disposing of the 50-20 at Suzuki Stadium and the Burleigh Bears 36-26 in the Preliminary Final at Pizzy Park. The Tigers met the 2018 minor premiers, the Redcli'e Dolphins, at Suncorp Stadium with the Dolphins starting as "rm favourites. Unfortunately our great "nals form didn’t continue and we were beaten by a better team on the day. In regards to milestones, popular Tommy Butter"eld celebrated his 200th "rst grade game in the ISC, whilst Jack Svendsen and Linc Port both notched up their 100th "rst grade games in the state-based competition. Congratulations to Brett Greinke on winning the 2018 Patron’s Trophy Best and Fairest Player, and likewise to Jarrod McInally on winning the prestigious Loth Medal. Congratulations also to Billy Walters, and on their selection in the Queensland Residents team, who were beaten by the NSW Blues in Sydney. Finally, a big thank-you to Head Coach Scott Sipple, his support sta' and the 2018 playing group for their tremendous e'orts throughout the season. RUGBY LEAGUE A GRADE The BRL A grade side had a mixed 2018 season, "nishing in 4th spot on the In-Safe-Hands ladder, after winning eight from 20 games in the regular season. Unfortunately, the team was eliminated in the "rst week of the "nals series, losing to eventual premiers, the . The 2018 side was once again a younger side and included a number of our U20 players. The players will be better in 2019 for the experience. Congratulations to exciting Brett Kelly on his selection in the Queensland Rangers side. Thank-you to coach David Krause and his support sta' for their e'orts throughout the season. FOGS COLTS Our 2018 Hastings Deering Colts side were again too inconsistent throughout the season, with the team failing to make the play-o's, winning six games from the 20 "xture games. Thank-you to coach Ian Gough and his support sta' for their e'orts throughout the season. MAL MENINGA U18 Unfortunately, our Meninga Cup side only won one game from the seven competition games in the state-wide U18 competition. Thank-you to Coach Steve Peoples and his sta' for their e'orts.

WOMEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE The Tigers "elded a Women’s side for a second season, playing in the ’s premier women’s competition. Once again the side was very competitive, winning 10 from 16 regular "xture games and "nished the season in 3rd place. Unfortunately, the side su'ered a number of injuries to key players at the back end of the year were eliminated in week 1 of the "nals, "nishing in 4th place. Congratulations to and Vanessa Foliaki on their selection in the Australian Jillaroos side. Thanks to coach Duane Rehua and his team for their e'orts.

JUNIOR ACADEMIES 2018 saw the second year of the Easts Tigers Junior Academy program. The Academy is a development program for players, aged 13 to 17 years, selected from our junior a#liate clubs, including NRL South . The academy has been established to identify and develop talented players in a direct pathway to future representative opportunities with the Tigers. The Academy is based on a representative selection model, whereby players are selected by independent selectors and consists of three boys aged based squads have been named after Easts Tigers legends being - John Eales (U13/14’s); John Lang (U14/U15’s) and Des Morris (U16/U17’s). 2018 also saw the introduction of two girl academy squads. Academy members are required to attend monthly training sessions at Suzuki Stadium Langland’s Park whereby players will receive high level of core skill development as well as o'-"eld education

AFFILIATIONS The Club was pleased to enter into a number of new a#liations during 2018, including the Bulimba Bulldogs RLFC and the Mable Park High School. REPORTS JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Once again this season the Tigers ran Junior Development Squads, a new addition to the program saw two new girls academies introduced. Starting later this season than in previous seasons the program saw many more players in this year’s program. Larger squads were assembled to ensure that the local catchment area was serviced better than before and ensure that all these male and female players were given the best on "eld training on o'er from expert sta'.

The academy model was changed again from four male squads to three, named after our club legends John Eales (13/14’s) John Lang (15/16’s) and Des Morris (16/17’s). The Morris academy speci"cally put together to identify up and coming Mal Meninga Cup players for the future.

A new initiative this season was to take sessions to our a#liate clubs, this was received very well and also doubled up as a source of coach education, one session in particular running a full coaches update with the help of the NRL. A very successful evening saw thirty a#liate coaches gain a further one year’s accreditation on their coaches’ certi"cate. A big thank you to Tim McIntyre for facilitating this evening and the Mt Gravatt Junior Rugby League Club. Coaches were given the best access to all sessions throughout.

In total 6 sessions were held but unfortunately due to very bad weather the scheduled quad series against Sunshine Coast, Wynnum and Ipswich Brothers had to be cancelled with no time to re-schedule these games, the only dampener on a great year. Moving forward the future is very bright for our development program and again in season 2019 there will be new progressions and exciting programs on o'er for all of our local players.

I would like to acknowledge the e'orts of all sta' this season in the running of the program, the a#liate clubs for their hospitality and the Easts Seniors for their continued support of grassroots programs.

PAGE 27 REPORTS JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT AFFILIATE INTERACTIONS

In 2018 Eastern Suburbs continued its great partnerships with its junior a#liate clubs, another new addition to our Easts family is Bulimba Bulldogs, and we look forward to working with in season 2019. 30 visits were conducted throughout the season at all clubs. Our Junior A#liates contributed to game day entertainment with our Under 7 and 8’s participated in exhibition games at Suzuki Stadium . It is always great to see the young players running around and I am sure they enjoyed the experience of playing on the Seniors Field.

Another exciting opportunity for our young teams was on Intrust Super Cup Grand Final day with our U6 Easts Juniors participating in the pre-game exhibition games at Suncorp Stadium.

Club teams were given a "rsthand look at what it is like to be an Intrust Super Cup player with Head Coach Scott Sipple allowing access to his team in the dressing sheds for a full game day experience. I thank Scott for opening the doors to these teams and giving them a great day.

Well done to all our a#liates on a great season in 2018, 2019 promises to be a bigger and better year and the Tigers look forward to working alongside all clubs for another great year.

STORM ACADEMY

Our NRL A#liate once again ran development sessions out of Suzuki Stadium Langlands Park. Sessions were overseen by Head Coach Matt Church once a month and coordinated by Pathways Manager Dane Campbell. Dane has done a great job this season and the club looks forward to a successful continued partnership providing further future pathways for local juniors in the area.

SCHOOL PARTICIPATION

Continued partnerships with Ipswich State High School and Mable Park State High School in 2018. Ipswich again competing in the prestigious GIO Schoolboys Cup and once again making it through to the super six section of the competition, this shows the school has sustained success and a great program for the young men at the school. Mable Park again leads the way in the rise of girl’s rugby league. This season only falling short of retaining their Karyn Murphy cup title to a determined Keebra Park side.

28 PAGE EASTERN SUBURBS DRLFC 2018 ANNUAL REPORT REPORTS JUNIOR DIVISON REPORT

It is my privilege having to report on another amazing season at Easts Juniors in 2018. The year has seen the Club continue to grow with numbers increasing in all grades. We were able to "eld 24 teams in all grades from under 6 to 21’s in 2018.

On the "eld in 2018, we had an awesome year with 8 of our 10 international aged-group teams getting a chance to play for a premiership. Our Under 13 Division 2 and Under 14 Premier teams went all the way on Grand Final day and were rewarded with the Premiership.

All teams at the Club where part of the amazing year for the Tigers and are all winners in my book and I look forward to seeing everyone back at the Club in 2019.

During the course of the year the Club got to host a number of Chairman Trophy’s games along with three weeks of the "nals series. These games where very well supported and the Club had a number of awesome days with higher than normal sales in both the canteen and the bar.

Trophy day was again the highlight of another successful season with everyone having a great day out. Activities for the kids on the day included the presentation trophies, a waterslide, a swing ride, sausage sizzle as well as free soft drink and ice cream.

The recipient of the Mark Fyfe Memorial Trophy for 2018 was Brandon Frescon, from the U18’s, who was judged the player most likely to succeed in senior football.

The Len Conroy Memorial Trophy for club person of the year was awarded to Peter Talbot. A massive thank-you goes to all the volunteers for the e'ort you have given during the course of the year. These contributions make me proud to be part of such great club. The volunteers I wish to thank include, the Executive and Management Committee, along with our coaches, managers and parents.

I would like to thank all our sponsors for your support in 2018. Thank you to Minelab, Yatala Pie Shop, Stones Corner Eyewear, APAK wholesales, AH&E cost estimators, Urban, Easts Leagues Club and the Senior Division for your continued support.

Our year began with a working bee to help maintain the grounds which was well supported. The main fundraiser for the Club was a movie night on a big screen, which was set up on the "eld. The Brisbane City Council kindly installed water tanks, which draws water from the Mott Park catchment, which will help reduce our irrigation expenses.

We also have plans afoot to replace the last remaining timber retaining wall, upgrade our dressing rooms and club house toilets. Finally it has been a pleasure being the President of our Club for the 2018 season and with your continued support we are bound to have a great 2019 season.
