The 2018 JPC Senior Drama class is an exceptionally talented group of actors and it is because of their talent that this hugely challenging and provocative play was selected to showcase their talents. I encourage you to attend one of the two performances. You will not be disappointed. SCHOOL FEES I extend my sincere thanks to all parents who pay school fees. We attempt to keep these to a minimum. The reality for us is that without them it would be impossible to maintain the very high standard of education John Paul College provides. SIGN OUT PROCESS: SICKBAY It has come to my attention that many students are contacting parents direct to collect them from school when they are feeling unwell. The process at John Paul College is for students to come to the nurse in the sickbay to be assessed and if required, the nurse will make contact with the parents to collect the child and sign the child out.

    MORE TAL K │ EDITIO N 12 │ 26 APRIL 2019 MORE TALK │ EDITION 1 2 │ 26 APRIL 20 19 WEEKLY SCRIPTURE SWEPT AWAY I t ’ s the early hours of Easter Monday morning (01:36 to be precise) and I am awakened from my much - needed beauty sleep by an unusual sound! Has the dog jumped into the pool? Alarmed by this confusing thought I groggily sprint all of four meters, tear back th e curtains and stare at the body of still water. No dog. But…the sound continues. It is an unusual sound to be sure. Ears now awake, I make my w ay t o the opposite window and stare out. There in the dark, broom in hand is my dear wife! She’s ankle deep in wat er chasing the rain’s downpour towards the now unblocked drain. Satisfied, I returned to bed …ha, ha – just kidding. Whilst supporting my wife’s endeavours (at that very hour) I got to thinking how Noah’s generation must have felt struggling to hold bac k the unstoppable rising waters of God’s radical purging. No number of brooms would succeed as the sovereign God metered out Hi s e nd t o an evil world. Social media pinged relentlessly regarding this weekend’s devastation; highlighting again and again all t hat was being swept away. Despite mankind’s natural tendencies God is merciful, and He makes a promise when the waters receded that man and anima l w o uld never endure a flood of that magnitude again. With the recent reminder of our heavy rainfalls, may we a l l hu mb ly acknowledge and recognise His divinity and authority over all.

Events of the last days have had a ripple eect through the very fabric of our society and have stirred our hearts. The timing of this crisis in our constitutional democracy at this point in Lent reminds us that through the pathway to death and the Cross came the resurrection and life. I have no doubt that “we the people of South Africa” shall emerge better and stronger. We must continue to be a people of hope and indeed a school of hope. Governance We thought that at the end of this rst term we would like to make sure parents know more about the governance of the school. St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls is an institution of the Anglican Diocese of Pretoria. The assets (property and buildings) of the school are held in trust (owned) by the Diocesan Trustees for the purposes of running a school. The school is founded and run according to a Constitution which is approved by the Synod of the Anglican Diocese. The Governing Body of the school is constitutionally chaired by the Bishop of Pretoria, who at present delegates this responsibility to the Vice-Chair, Fay Mukaddam.

Attendance dues are charged by the Hamilton Diocese, largely for buildings, while the General Activity Contribution contributes to resources and running costs of the school. The Hamilton Diocese have spent well over $10million on buildings for JPC over the last decade, including the new technology block, costing $3.3million, which has been greatly appreciated by staff and students. We are also excited that the new Performing Arts Centre is progressing well to commence construction.
