PA$8POR'l'S—All passengers must have passports. United States citizens must apply to the U. S. Passport O icer located in Washington, New York, Boston, Chicago or San Francisco or to the Clerk of a State or a Federal Court exercising neutralization powers in the"districts in which they reside. Aliens must apply to their respective consulates. Vl§AS—A "Visa" is a stamp of approval on a traveler’s passport by an o icial oi the country to be visited. " Requirements ‘vary with the countries concerned. Some do not require a person holding a United States passport to secure a visa, others grant such a visa without charge, while still others a ixa visa only upon payment of a stipulated fee. Detailed information should, in each instance, be secured from the respective Steamship Lines or their authorized agents. RE-ENTRY PERMlT$—All resident aliens leaving the United States and intending to return must secure in person a “Permit to Ra-enter.” Application Form I-I31 must be led,in duplicate, with the appropriate immigra- tion and Naturalization Service eldo iceor the District Director having iurisdiction over the alien’s place of" residence, at least 30 days before the proposed date of departure. SAILING I’ERMITS—All' passengers, other than U. S. citizens, must obtain an Income Tax Clearance Certi cate (Sailing Permit) for which application should be made in person, not earlier than one week before sailing, at the nearest oi ceof the Collector of Internal Revenue in the district in which the departing alien resides, or in New York at the Alien Income Tax Division, 292 Madison Avenue, Corner 41st Street, Room 500. The oi cehours are from 9 a.m. to p.m., Monday through Friday; closed on Saturdays. Passport and steamer ticket must be submitted, together with copies of income tax returns for the last three years, and a statement oi current income and withholding tax. All passengers in transit without stop-over privileges will be examined at the pier. It is recommended, however, that all others procure their sailing permits in advance, as examination by the U. S. Revenue investigator‘ ‘ at the pier may involve considerable delay. IINITED STATES HEAD TAX—$8.00 U. S. Head Tax per person must he collected on westbound passage con-‘ tracts; return portion of round trip tickets and prepaid tickets excepting as follows: l—United States citizens, 2_——. PORT OR VIA A MEXICAN POR'l'—United States Transportation Tax of 15% is payable on that portion of the trans-Atlantic fare paid in the United States which covers the voyage in either direction, between U. S. ports and Halifax; or between one U. S. port and another U. 5. port, or between a U. 5. port and a Mexican port. SIALLPOX VAGGINA‘l'l0I—All passengers (including those booked on this side for a round trip voyage), U. S. 7 citizens as well as aliens, arriving in the United States must present to the U. 5. Public Health Service a certi cate ‘from a competent physician showing that they have been vaccinated against smallpox within three years prior to date of entry. The certi catemust state the type of reaction-—a certi cateoi " No-reaction” is not acceptable. A blank form for an acceptable cert cate may be obtained from the respective Steamship Lines or thru authorized agents. Certain countries in Europe also require, such certi cateat time of entry. All passengers arriving at Canadian Ports from the British Isles are required to submit to the_Canadian Quarantine years prior to of Authorities written evidence that they have been vaccinated against smallpox within three date V arrival. CANADIAN REQIllREIEN'l'S—All passengers sailing from or to Canada in ships terminating at Canadian Ports must likewise be in possession of valid passports, duly visaed where necessary. Canadian citizens, resident in Canada apply to Passport O icer,Department of External Aliairs, Ottawa, other nationals to their respective High Commis- sioners or Consulates in Canada. Canadian residents exporting funds are required to be in possession of Travel Permit Form “ H” issued by authorized dealers of the Foreign Exchange Control Board of Canada. Baggage of all passengers sailing from Canadian ports is subject to examination by Canada Customs O icers for the purpose of preventing the illegal export of currency, stocks, bonds and other media of exchange. Westbound passengers proceeding to the U. S. A. via Canadian ports must be in possession, prior to sailing, of all necessary documents covering their entry to the United States of America.
