The 2014 Annual Blues Awards Ceremony was held on Tuesday 29th July 2014 at University House. Fifty seven (57) awards across seventeen (17) sports were presented in recognition of sporting excellence. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the following businesses who have kindly supported this years event. Pivotal Therapies The Coffee Grounds 3 Half Blue Award A Half Blue Award recognises outstanding performance at a state level and/or University competitions. 4 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Katrina Cornelly - Fencing 2013 Sporting Achievements • 1st in the Women’s Foil, Sabre and Epee at the 2013 Annual Club Competition • Bronze in the Open Womens Epee at the NSW Central West Regional Championships • Silver in the Womens Epee, Foil and Sabre Team, Bronze in the Individual Epee, 10th in the Individual Foil and 16th in the Individual Sabre at the 2013 Australian University Games • Ranked number 1 in the Womens Foil and number 2 in the Womens Epee in the overall rankings of the ACT • Silver in the Individual Open Womens Epee and Bronze in the Individual Open Womens foil at the ACT Championships • Bronze in the Open Womens Foil Teams at the Australian National Fencing Championships • Received the Mucronibus Crediti Award which roughly translates as ‘Trust in the Sword’. It is awarded to a member who has the club’s trust, a member who goes above and beyond both on and off the piste Katrina is studying a Bachelor of Arts 5 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Mark Dawkins - Rowing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Bronze in the Men’s lightweight fours at the 2013 Australian University Championships in Ballarat, Victoria • Gold in the Men’s Eights at the 2013 Disher Cup • Silver in the Men’s Fours at the 2013 ACT Championships Mark is studying a Bachelor of Science and Economics 6 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Alexandra Forde – Touch Football 2013 Sporting Achievements • Played in the National Touch League which takes place in Coffs Harbour every year. The ACT contingent is named the Pirates and is made up of various teams who compete in the various divisions. Alexandra competed for the women’s T-league (U20’s division) who did exceptionally well, coming in 3rd place after losing the semi-final Alexandra is studying a Bachelor of Commerce 7 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Jim Liu - Judo 2013 Sporting Achievements • Competed at the 2013 Australian University Championships in the Gold Coast where he received bronze in the (U81kg) Judo Championship Jim is studying a Bachelor of Commerce 8 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Benjamin Mathews-Hunter – Ultimate Disc 2013 Sporting Achievements • A member of the Canberra Men’s Team ‘Fyshwick’ when they got 2nd at the Australian Ultimate Championships • Awarded the ANU Ultimate Disc Club’s most valuable male player for 2013 Benjamin is studying a Bachelor of Medical Science 9 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Ailie McDonald - Cycling 2013 Sporting Achievements • 2013 U23 Australian National Individual Time trial Champion • A member of the 2013 ACT Track Team Ailie is studying a Bachelor of Laws 10 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Sarah McFadden - Rowing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Bronze in Women’s Fours and women’s pairs at the 2013 Australian University Championships in Ballarat, Victoria • Gold in the Women’s Eight at the 2013 Disher Cup Regatta Sarah will be graduating this year with a Bachelor of Asia-Pacific Studies (Japanese), a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma of Asia Pacific Studies 11 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Ben Morgan - Rowing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Bronze in the Men’s Lightweight Fours at the 2013 Australian University Championships in Ballarat, Victoria • Gold in Men’s eights at the 2013 Disher Cup • Silver in Men’s Fours at the 2013 ACT Championships Ben is studying a Bachelor of Arts/Laws 12 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Tri Nguyen - Judo 2013 Sporting Achievements • Competed at the 2013 Australian University Championships in the Gold Coast where he received bronze in the (U60kg) Judo Championship Tri is studying a Bachelor of Engineering 13 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Clementine Pickwick – Volleyball and Beach Volleyball 2013 Sporting Achievements • Represented ACT U23 women at the 2013 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships • Competed at the 2013 Australian University Games in Beach Volleyball where her partner and she won the Bronze medal • Plays for the Canberra Heat in the Australian Volleyball League Clementine is studying a Bachelor of Arts/Laws 14 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Stephanie Pollard - Athletics 2013 Sporting Achievements • Gold in the U20 200m sprint at the 2013 ACT Championships Stephanie is studying a Bachelor of Science 15 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Nathan Ryan - Rowing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Bronze in the Men’s Lightweight Fours at the 2013 Australian University Championships in Ballarat, Victoria • Silver in Men’s Fours at the 2013 ACT Championships Nathan is studying Masters in National Security Policy 16 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Hillary Salmon-Krone - Rowing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Bronze in Women’s fours and Women’s pairs at the 2013 Australian University Championships in Ballarat, Victoria • Gold in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls and Bronze in Women’s Eights at the 2013 ACT Championships • Gold in the Women’s eights at the 2013 Disher Cup Regatta Hillary is studying a Bachelor of Latin American Studies 17 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Jeremy Shelley - Fencing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Received the ‘NSW Champion’ status in the Men’s Epee • 2nd in the Individual Open Men’s Epee at the ACT Championships • 3rd in the ACT ‘A’ Men’s Epee Team at the Australian National Fencing Championships • 3rd in the Open Men’s Epee at the Western Sydney Regional Championships Jeremy is studying a Masters of Laws in International Law 18 Half Blue Award Recipient 2013 Siobhan Tobin - Rowing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Bronze in Women’s Fours and women’s pairs at the 2013 Australian University Championships in Ballarat, Victoria • Gold in the Women’s eights at the 2013 Disher Cup Regatta • Silver in Men’s Eights (Siobhan was a cox for this event. Under Australian rules coxswains can compete in crews of either gender, not just their own gender) and Bronze in Women’s Eights at the 2013 ACT Championships Siobhan is studying a Bachelor of Philosophy 19 Half Blue Award Recipients 2013 Congratulations to the recipients of Half Blue Awards. 20 Full Blue Award A Full Blue is the highest sporting accolade that can be awarded to a student- athlete at The Australian National University. They are awarded to athletes in recognition of their outstanding sporting achievements and for enhancing the reputation of University Sport. 21 Full Blue Award Recipient 2013 Danielle Alexander – Ultimate Disc 2013 Sporting Achievements • Played for the ‘Burley Griffins’ at The Australian Mixed Nationals and ‘Factory’ at the split gender nationals • Awarded the club’s most valuable female player and the best female offensive player • Selected for the ‘Crocs’, Australia’s best mixed ultimate team who competed at World Games in Cali, Columbia where they placed second • Awarded Green and Gold selection for her exception performance at the 2013 Australian University Games for the second year in a row Danielle graduated in Masters of Biotechnology in 2013. 22 Full Blue Award Recipient 2013 Rebecca Beath – Touch Football 2013 Sporting Achievements • Competed in the ACT Superleague competition for the Vikings and were premiers of the competition • Competed in the top touch football competition in Sydney, The Vawdon Cup for the Manly Sea Eagles where they placed second • Represented the Alliance (a combination of all states in Australia excluding NSW and QLD) in the Women's Elite 8 division at the National Touch League held in Coffs Harbour The women’s eight division is the best national competition for touch football in the country • Awarded Green and Gold selection for her exceptional performance at the Australian University Games Rebecca is studying a Bachelor of Engineering and Science 23 Full Blue Award Recipient 2013 Sarah Buckerfield - Rogaining 2013 Sporting Achievements • Excelled whilst representing the ANU at the National Rogaining Championships, winning the University Category for the past 3 years in a row • Represented the ACT at the National Championships in the Open category and placed first in the state qualifier • Represented Australia at the World Rogaining Championships in Pskov, Russia in May 2013 Sarah is studying a Bachelor of Global and Ocean Science with honours majoring in Geology 24 Full Blue Award Recipient 2013 Jackson Bursill – Cross Country Skiing 2013 Sporting Achievements • According to the Federation of International Skiing’s point system for ranking, Jackson is the 5th highest ranked Australian Distance Cross Country Skier • Placed 3rd in the Cross Country Skiing event at the 2013 Australian University Winter Games held in Thredbo • Represented Australia as part of the Australian Junior Cross Country Ski team in the 2013 World Junior Championships in Liberec, Czech Republic • Represented The ANU and Australia at the 2013 World University Winter Games Winter in Trentino, Italy and finished in the top 80% of the field Jackson is studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Laws 25 Full Blue Award Recipient 2013 Emily Caudle - Rowing 2013 Sporting Achievements • Gold in Mixed Fours and a Bronze in Women’s Fours at the 2013 Australian University Championships in Ballarat, NSW • Bronze in Open Women’s Quadruple Scull and a bronze medal in Under 23 Women’s Double Scull at the 2013 Australian Championships in Penrith, NSW • In the local events, she received gold in the Women’s Eight at the 2013 Disher Cup Regatta.
