July 4, 2016 MEDIA FYI 2016 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshals: Jann Arden and Paul Brandt CALGARY, ALBERTA – Calgary Stampede Parade Marshals occupy a prestigious place in the history of the Calgary Stampede. Among other things, they exemplify western heritage, values, and culture. 2016 Parade Marshals: Jann Arden and Paul Brandt In honour of our city’s “Year of Music” celebration, singer-songwriter Jann Arden and homegrown country music superstar Paul Brandt will lead the Calgary Stampede Parade. Fresh off hosting the 2016 Juno Awards, Calgary-born Arden is a singer, songwriter, broadcaster and author. Whether she is captivating audiences with her heartfelt music, entertaining them with her quick wit or sharing her written word in a boldly honest voice – Arden is a Canadian original – a brilliant multi-dimensional talent. Brandt, the most awarded male Canadian Country Music artist in history, had an unlikely journey of humble beginnings and big dreams to fame and stardom. A true Calgary Stampede friend, Brandt headlined the stage for all 10 nights of the 2012 Centennial TransAlta Grandstand Show. History of the Parade Marshal One of the Calgary Stampede’s oldest and proudest traditions is the role of Stampede Parade Marshal. The Parade Marshal not only leads the Parade, but is also a reflection of the values and culture of the community. The very first Calgary Stampede Parade in 1912 was led by 1,800 members of the Treaty 7 First Nations at the request of Stampede visionary, Guy Weadick. People marveled at the grandeur and splendor of seeing 1,800 First Nations people from five different tribes dressed in their traditional regalia.

2021/22 PRESENTED BY PORCHSIDE SONGS LIVE & IN CONCERT, IN YOUR FRONT YARD! #PORCHSIDESONGSTO PRESENTING SEASON SPONSOR WELCOME TO PORCHSIDE SONGS One of the earliest decisions we made when the pandemic began was to curate mini-concerts and tour them to Toronto porches, backyards and neighbourhoods. After a frightening and devastating first wave, we experienced a healing each time another group experienced one of our PORCHSIDE SONGS. We watched families, friends and communities come back together after months of separation through live music. And we felt the electricity of giving groups of silenced artists a place to raise their voices again. We were able to share 80 concerts last summer throughout the city, bringing the gift of musical storytelling to over 1500 people. One year later, the return date for large-scale theatrical productions remains uncertain. But our early experiment with PORCHSIDE SONGS has become the guiding light for our work – artists can bring joy, inspiration and togetherness into people’s lives at this time if we meet people where they are and fill unexpected spaces with song. As the weather warms again, we are so excited to return music to the city with four new and sensational PORCHSIDE SONGS concerts, led by remarkable local artists. May witnessing these concerts bring you the same hope and joy that we are feeling by sharing them with you today. • Company Profile the Calgary Foundation's Text-To-Donate
Company profile The Calgary Foundation, established in 1955, facilitates collaborative philanthropy by making powerful connections between donors and community organizations for the long term benefit of Calgary and surrounding area. To identify needs and address community issues, The Calgary Foundation develops networks that transcend special interests, providing knowledgeable and effective grants in the areas of Arts & Heritage, Human Services, Education, Environment, Health and Neighbourhoods. The Calgary Foundation’s Text-to-Donate Programs The Calgary Foundation reacted fast when disaster struck Alberta this summer. Calgary and surrounding cities were devastated by floods caused by torrential rain in late June 2013. Two text-to-donate campaigns were launched in August 2013, in conjunction with two relief concerts, one for Alberta Flood Aid (keyword ‘ABFLOOD’) and one for Halo High Water (keyword ‘HHW’), to help Albertans rebuild after the floods. Both concerts aired in August and had a combined live audience of more than 30,000 people, not including all of those who tuned in from home on TV and online through live streaming. The call-to-action encouraging viewers to text ABFLOOD or HHW to 20222 to donate $10 was displayed at the concert, was promoted live by the supportive guests, artists, and performers that took part in the benefit show, and of course on social media. By promoting the call-to-action on television and live online, at home concert viewers were also able to see how easy it was for them to help out fellow Canadians in need. The Flood Aid concert has been, and will continue to be rebroadcasted until December 2013, while keeping the text-to-donate call-to-action prominently displayed across the screen for much needed continuing support from viewers.
