Loblaw is positioned to meet and exceed those needs in many ways three of Canada's top consumer brands in President's Choice®, Life Brand®, and no name®. In 1919, Toronto grocers Theodore Pringle Loblaw and J. Milton Cork opened the first Loblaw Groceterias store modelled on a new and radically different retail concept, namely "self serve.' The traditional grocery store provided a high level of personal service but was a labour intensive operation. In 1953, Loblaw Groceterias acquired majority control of Loblaw Inc., the former American branch of the company with stores in New York State, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, through a purchase of stock from George Weston Limited. By the mid-1980s, Loblaw Companies Limited had become Canada’s largest supermarket retailer. Much of that success could be attributed to the effectiveness of the company's "control label" or private label program. In the case of President's Choice, a key management strategy had been to create a line of unique products at competitive prices. At present, Loblaw Companies Limited encompasses 1,000 corporate and franchise supermarkets in Canada that operates under 22 regional and market segment banners. Loblaw's operates a private label program that includes grocery and household items, clothing, baby products, pharmaceuticals, cellular phones, general merchandise, and financial services. Loblaw brands include President's Choice, No Name, Joe Fresh, No Frills, T&T, Everyday Living, Exact, Seaquest, Azami, and Teddy's Choice. – 30 – FACT SHEET Communications Coordinator Ilia Shikhov Cell phone 289-241-5327 Office phone 1-888-495-5111, ext. 1337 (Toll Free) Organization’s website: presidentschoice.ca Twitter: @PresChoice Nov. 22, 2016 Loblaw Companies Limited and President's Choice® Date founded Founded in 1919 in Toronto.
