Hindi kami bulag sa kadiliman at paniniil ng panahong Marcos!

Pahayag ng mga kasapi ng Pamantasang Ateneo de Manila tungkol sa rehimeng Batas Militar at sa pagbaluktot ni Bongbong Marcos sa kasaysayan

“Ipaubaya natin ang kasaysayan sa mga propesor, sa mga nag-aaral tungkol sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas. Kami hindi namin trabaho yan. Ang trabaho namin ay tingnan kung ano ba ang pangangailangan ng taong bayan ngayon.” – Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr.

Bilang tugon sa hamon ni Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos, Jr. na dapat husgahan ng mga guro at mag-aaral ng kasaysayan ang administrasyong Marcos, kaming mga nakalagdang kasapi ng komunidad ng Ateneo de Manila ay maigting na tumututol at kumukundena sa patuloy at sadyang pagbaluktot ng ating kasaysayan. Matindi naming ikinalulungkot ang walang-kahihiyang pagtanggi sa pag-ako ng mga krimen ng rehimeng Batas Militar. Hindi namin tinatanggap ang pagbaluktot ng kasaysayan, ang kabaga-bagabag na pananaw sa kinabukasan, at ang mababaw na hamon ng “pagkakaisa” na inihahain ni Marcos, Jr, at ng mga kandidato sa halalan ng 2016 na tulad niyang mag-isip.

Malaking naging pinsala sa pag-unlad ng ekonomiya ng bansa ang malaking panlabas ng pangungutang na ginawa ng rehimeng Marcos. Hindi naging interesado ang rehimen sa kaunlaran para sa lahat, pangmatagalang pagpapapatatag sa estado, ni sa tunay na pagbabago ng lipunan, sa kabila ng retorika nito ng “Bagong Lipunan”. Sa halip, higit na pinagtuunan ni Marcos ang pagpapatibay ng paghawak niya ng kapangyarihan sa pamamagitan ng pagpabor sa mga kamag-anak, kaibigan, at iba pa nilang kasabwat. Kaya bumuo lamang si Marcos ng mga bagong naghaharing-uri o mga “oligarch” sa halip na buwagin ang mga ito—ang ibinandila niyang isa sa mga dahilan niya sa pagpapataw ng batas militar. Ang mga nangahas humamon sa pagkamkam ng rehimen sa kapangyarihan--mga pulitiko, mangangalakal, aktibistang pulitikal, organisadong manggagawa, magsasaka o maralitang tagalunsod, taong Simbahan, mag-aaral; bata o matanda, mayaman o mahirap—ay tinakot, ikinulong, idinukot, pinahirapan o pinatay nang walang paglilitis.

Hinding-hindi namin kalilimutan ang mga kalapastanganang ginawa ng rehimeng Marcos, at muli naming hinihingi na maiharap sa hustisya ang mga gumawa ng ganitong krimen. Inuulit din namin ang aming paninindigan na dapat ay walang-tigil na habulin at bawiin ng pamahalaan ang lahat ng nakaw na yamang nakamal ng pamilyang Marcos at ng kanilang mga kasabwat. Higit pa rito, ang mga biktima at ang kanilang mga pamilya ay dapat mabigyan ng katarungan at buong kabayaran. Anumang hamon na magkaisa, lalo na mula sa mga tagapagmana ng rehimeng Marcos na matinding pinagwatak-watak ang bansa, ay walang laman at walang kahulugan kung hindi naitataguyod ang katotohanan at katarungan.

Pinagtitibay namin ang aming pangako, bilang mga guro at tagahubog, na laging ituro ang katotohanan. Aming ipapaalala na ang panahon ng diktaduryang Marcos ang isa sa pinakamadilim na yugto ng kasaysayan ng Pilipinas. Muli naming pinagtitibay ang aming pananagutan bilang mga guro at prupesyunal na panatilihing buhay ang diwa ng EDSA 1986 sa pamamagitan ng pagpapamalay sa kabataan na ang mga istruktura, gawain at ideya—kabilang na ang napakaraming kasinungalingan— na nagpahintulot sa administrasyong Marcos na ipataw at igiit nang matagalan ang sarili nito, ay dapat buwagin at hindi na muling payagang yumabong. Kasabay nito, kikilos kami para matupad ang pangarap ng EDSA para sa higit na makatarungan at demokratikong lipunan.

Tinatanggihan namin ang argumentong hindi “uubra” ang demokrasya sa Pilipinas at tanging isang diktadurya, mapagkalinga man o hindi, ang makapaghahatid sa ating bansa sa kasaganaan. Sa halip, dapat nating isulong at pagyamanin ang kakayahan sa demokrasya ng ating mga mamamayan at institusyon upang umunlad tayo bilang isang bansa. Kahit patuloy na umiiral ang di-pagkakapantay- pantay at kawalang-katarungan, naniniwala kami na ang kalutasan ng mga suliraning ito ay nakasalalay sa pagpapalalim ng ating mga demokratikong institusyon at gawain, pagpapalakas sa mga naisasantabi, at pagtitiyak na may pananagutan ang ating mga pinuno at ang ating sarili.

Kinukundena namin, nang buong tindi at igting, ang pagtatangka ng ilang tao at lalo na ng mga lingkod-bayan, na linisin ang walang-pakundangang paglabag sa karapatang pantao ng rehimeng Marcos at ang pagbabaluktot nito sa rekord nito sa pulitika at ekonomiya. Hinahamon namin ang lahat nating pulitiko, lalo na ang mga tumatakbo sa pambansa at lokal na eleksyon ngayong 2016, na malinaw na manindigan tungkol sa mga pang-aabuso ng diktaduryang Marcos. Hinahamon namin sila na sumama sa tawag naming hinding-hindi na muling pahintulutan na magkaugat ang mga binhi ng paniniil sa ating lipunan. Hinihingi namin na ang lahat ng tuwiran o di-tuwirang nakilahok at nanagana sa rehimen ay humingi ng paumanhin at, kung kinakailangan, pagbayaran ang kanilang papel sa rehimen o ang kanilang pagtataguyod nito. At pang-huli, tinatanggihan namin ang anumang pagtatangka na ilibing bilang bayani si Ferdinand E. Marcos sa Libingan ng mga Bayani.

Nanunumpa kami bilang mga guro at tagahubog na ipagpatuloy ang paglalahad ng mga kuwento ng karahasan at kabulukan ng pamilya, rehimen at matatalik na kasabwat ng mga Marcos. Hinahangad naming panatilihing buhay ang mga simulain at kabayanihan ng maraming matapang na Pilipino na lumaban sa rehimen. Habang patuloy naming ginugunita at ibinabahagi ang mga kuwentong ito, naniniwala kami na ang mga darating na henerasyon ng Pilipino ay matututo sa mga aral ng mga taon ng pakikibaka na nagbunga ng pagpapatalsik sa diktadurya noong mga makasaysayang araw ng noong 1986.

Ipinangangalandakan at ikinakalat ng mga loyalista at tagapagbaluktot ng mga Marcos na “nabigo” ang People Power Revolution. Matindi naming tinututulan ang ganito. Tunay na pagbabalikwas ng madla at tagumpay laban sa diktadurya ang People Power Revolution. Gayunpaman, hindi pa tapos ang rebolusyon. Ang kabuuan ng demokratisasyon, lalo na ang paglikha ng kaayusang panlipunan na gumagalang sa dignidad ng lahat ng mga Pilipino, ay dapat pang matupad. Pananagutan natin bilang sambayanan na ipagpatuloy at buuin ang pakikibakang hindi pa natatapos.

Dapat tayong magsimula sa katotohanan.

Ginoong Marcos, mga pinunong tapat sa katotohanan ng kasaysayan ang siyang kailangan ng taong bayan ngayon!
