One year again the city of Gijón opens its eyes to watch a great selection th Jesús Martínez Salvador of the best independent cinema thanks to FICX, the Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival. On this 55 edition we are introducing two great novelties: the creation of the Best Spanish Film Award and FICX Industry Days, in collaboration Concejal de Turismo, Deportes, Festejos y Juventud with the Principality of Asturias’ Film Commission. Furthermore, the event has stepped forward regarding the locations Ayuntamiento de Gijón/Xixón available, adding four modern screens at Yelmo Cines Ocimax in La Calzada. 55FICX has been brought to you by Alejandro Díaz, with help from Tito Rodríguez and a fantastic team, Festival veterans, giving form to an ambitious programme that includes some significant new additions. On this edition we are presenting 177 titles where we are betting on new cinematographic voices, the latest works of renowned directors and a strong presence with 18% of the films being Asturian. Nevertheless, not everything is cinema at FICX. Our Festival transcends the screens to take to the city streets, anxious to share its limelight. FICX is meetings, debate, culture, music, partying and gastronomy. Gijón is making the Festival his, and the Festival responds in kind. -
