After 55 years, FICX has its eyes set on keeping developing a sustainable festival model involved with many local, regional, national and international entities. An ambitious project regarding content but thoroughly dimensioned structurally. A participative festival, with balanced proposals and able to bring together very different artistic sensitivities. On this edition, the spectators will be able to enjoy, for the first time in our country, a carefully chosen selection of key modern audiovisual works, which would not have been possible without the rigorous work of the programming team, and where cinema made by women is very present, constituting more than 40% of the program. 55FICX presents important novelties, like the creation of a specific jury for Spanish cinema present in the main competitive sections of the Festival, with the determined objective of increasing the support for our country’s filmmakers, or the numerous Asturians participating on its international sections. Film treasures from the past in photochemical format will be brought back in the new FICX / Laboral Cinemateca section, and the “FICX Industry Days” will be launched: an open meeting space for professionals in the audiovisual sector. El Festival Internacional de Cine de Gijón/Xixón cumple 55 años consolidado como uno de los certámenes cinematográficos de referencia en nuestro país y a nivel internacional, certificado como “festival especializado” por la FIAPF y calificador 2017 will see FICX expanding in new spaces of the city thanks to the valuable collaboration of Yelmo Cines Ocimax, where para los premios Oscar y los Goya, entre otros muchos reconocimientos oficiales ganados a pulso durante décadas de the audience will be able to enjoy a sizeable portion of the most attractive contents present on this edition, joining Teatro actividad. Jovellanos, Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto, Centro Municipal Integrado Pumarín Gijón-Sur and Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura (Theatre and Paranymph) as venue. El FICX cumple 55 años con la vista puesta en continuar desarrollando un modelo de festival sostenible e implicado con multitud de entidades a nivel local, regional, nacional e internacional. Un proyecto ambicioso en los contenidos pero FICX is turning 55 bent on combining the presence of the world’s cinema scene greats with young promises, and increasing concienzudamente dimensionado a nivel estructural. Un certamen participativo, equilibrado en sus propuestas, y capaz de the number of meetings with the audience, exceeding 80 in this edition. FICX’s over 200 screenings will be supplemented aunar sensibilidades artísticas muy diferentes. with exhibitions, book presentations, talks, venues inside and outside of Asturias, and parties and concerts planned as a horizontal and relaxed meeting point for the audience, visitors and guests. En esta edición los espectadores podrán disfrutar, por primera vez en nuestro país, de una cuidada selección de obras clave del audiovisual contemporáneo,

Brown University Department of Hispanic Studies HISP 1290J. Spain on Screen: 80 Years of Spanish Cinema Fall, 2013 Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00-10:20am, Salomon 004 Prof. Sarah Thomas 84 Prospect Street, #301 [email protected] Tel.: (401) 863-2915 Office hours: Thursdays, 11am-1pm Course description: Spain’s is one of the most dynamic and at the same time overlooked of European cinemas. In recent years, Spain has become more internationally visible on screen, especially thanks to filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro, Pedro Almodóvar, and Juan Antonio Bayona. But where does Spanish cinema come from? What themes arise time and again over the course of decades? And what – if anything – can Spain’s cinema tell us about the nation? Does cinema reflect a culture or serve to shape it? This course traces major historical and thematic developments in Spanish cinema from silent films of the 1930s to globalized commercial cinema of the 21st century. Focusing on issues such as landscape, history, memory, violence, sexuality, gender, and the politics of representation, this course will give students a solid training in film analysis and also provide a wide-ranging introduction to Spanish culture. By the end of the semester, students will have gained the skills to write and speak critically about film (in Spanish!), as well as a deeper understanding and appreciation of Spain’s culture, history, and cinema. Prerequisite: HISP 0730, 0740, or equivalent. Films, all written work and many readings are in Spanish. This is a writing-designated course (WRIT) so students should be prepared to craft essays through multiple drafts in workshops with their peers and consultation with the professor.

  • 43E Festival International Du Film De La Rochelle Du 26 Juin Au 5 Juillet 2015 Le Puzzle Des Cinémas Du Monde

President Nixon was in the White House and the U.S. was at war in Vietnam. The image of the picture‐perfect, stay‐at‐home housewife with the ideal husband and family was being threatened. Forces of change—a sexual revolution, the use of hallucinogenic drugs and a new founded challenge to authority—had crept into family rooms and dinning table conversations. Raised in a traditional Christian family, Perry leads a sheltered life, always doing what is expected of him. He has a wonderful virgin Christian girlfriend, Dorothy. He attends church with his family on Sundays and enjoys family dinners. He is following a career path that will prevent him from being drafted to fight in Vietnam. As a chemist he is book smart and company driven, but doesn’t know the harsh realities of the world. Everything he believes in is challenged the day he is chosen to be a jury member in a hippie death cult murder trial, where the defendant on trial is a strikingly beautiful woman named Leslie.
