PEARSON AWARD RECIPIENT TORONTO, ON – Lacrosse Canada has announced that Dean McLeod will be presented with the 2021 Lester B. Pearson Award. The Pearson Award is presented annually to members of the Canadian lacrosse community in recognition of their unselfish dedication and outstanding contributions of sportsmanship and distinguished leadership to the game of lacrosse and to the physical and mental development of young Canadians. McLeod’s devotion, work ethic, focus and sustained commitment to the Ontario Junior “A” Lacrosse League, and to lacrosse in his hometown of Brampton, have been exemplary. Born in Brampton, Ontario in 1945, Dean has been involved in lacrosse at virtually every position possible. However, in 1982, he took on the role for which he is most commonly identified when he became Commissioner of the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior “A” League; a position he held for over three and a half decades. At the end of the 2018 Ontario Lacrosse season, he officially announced his retirement as commissioner, ending a 37-year continuous years of service to the league. When asked for his initial response to hearing that he was named the Pearson Award recipient, Mr. McLeod stated, “When Terry Rowland (Lacrosse Canada Director of Marketing) telephoned me and told me I had been selected the 2021 recipient of the Lester B. Pearson Award, and along with it comes Life Membership through Lacrosse Canada, I was completely dumbfounded! What an unsuspected honour to have my name now sit alongside all of the great past winners of this award.

    RIO LACRO TA S N SE O 2018 ENTRY DRAFT LACROSSE Major Series Lacrosse Announces 2018 Entry Draft Selections Schedule Oakville, ON – January 24, 2018 – The 2018 Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) Entry Draft of graduating junior-aged players will take place this Sunday, January 28th at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. The Major Series Lacrosse Entry Draft is scheduled to begin shortly after 2:00PM EST. Updates will be live-tweeted and fans are encouraged to following along with @MajorSeriesLax. Full results can be found online following the draft at www.majorserieslacrosse.ca and www.ontariolacrosse.com. A total of 30 players will be drafted over five rounds by the six MSL teams: Brampton Excelsiors, Brooklin Redmen, Cobourg Kodiaks, Oakville Rock, Peterborough Lakers and Six Nations Chiefs. The tentative draft order is found on the following page, but the order is subject to change based on trades or agreements between the teams’ general managers. Of note is the fact that the Cobourg Kodiaks have 12 of the 30 available selections (40%) to be made in the 2018 Major Series Lacrosse Entry Draft. This includes four selections in Round 2 and four selections in Round 3. Round 4 is the only round where all six MSL teams will make a selection. The hosting Oakville Rock will select twice in Round 1, while the 2017 Ontario finalist Six Nations Chiefs won’t make their first selection until Round 3 (15th overall, halfway through the draft). He played in the Brampton minor lacrosse system from 1966-1975 before graduating to the Brampton Junior “A” team in 1976. He played Brampton Jr. “A” from 1976 to 1980. In 1976 Brampton Jr. “A” were the Ontario Champions and were Minto Cup Finalists. In five seasons with the Brampton Jr. “A” team Steve’s stats for the regular season: 110 Games Played, 99 Goals, 148 Assists, 248 Total Points and 406 PIM. In 1982 Steve joined the MSL Brampton Sr. “A” team and played there until 1986. Steve was known as a tough, hardworking defensive player who could score on key situations. Brampton Lacrosse awarded Steve a team MVP Award in 1980, and a team Top Defensive Award in 1985. Steve played against or with Bob Burke, Jim Veltman, Troy Cordingley, Bob Watson, John Grant and Jim Wasson.
