Major Series Lacrosse Announces 2019 Entry Draft Selections Schedule Major Series Lacrosse Announces 2019 Entry Draft Selections Schedule Cobourg, ON – January 18, 2019 – The 2019 Ontario Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) Entry Draft of graduating junior-aged players will take place on Sunday, January 27th at the Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario. The Entry Draft is scheduled to begin at approximately 2:00PM. Results will be live-tweeted and fans are encouraged to following along with @MajorSeriesLax. Full results will be posted online following the selections at both www.ontariolacrosse.com and www.majorserieslacrosse.ca. A total of 30 players over five rounds will be drafted by the six MSL teams. The tentative draft order is found below, but the order may change based on trades or agreements between the teams’ general managers. Of note is the fact that the Brampton Excelsiors have 9 of the 30 available selections (30%) to be made in the 2019 Entry Draft, including five of the 12 available selections in the first two rounds. Oakville receives player Dan Craig in exchange for their 1st round 2 Via trade with Oakville Rock pick of the 2019 Entry Draft to Brooklin. Cobourg trades player Corey Small to Peterborough in exchange 3 Via trade with Peterborough Lakers for players Nick Finlay, Kyle Killen and Peterborough’s 1st round selection in the 2019 Entry Draft. Cobourg receives Brampton’s 2nd round selection in the 2019 Entry 4 Via trade with Brampton Excelsiors Draft for player Brandon Robinson. Six Nations receives player Ethan O’Connor from Brampton for 5 Via trade with Six Nations Chiefs player Tim Edwards and Six Nations 2nd and 3rd round selections in the 2019 Entry Draft. Oakville receives Brampton’s 2nd round selection (10th overall 6 Via trade with Oakville Rock selection) in the 2017 Entry Draft in exchange for Brampton receiving Oakville’s 2nd round selection in the 2019 Entry Draft. Brampton receives Peterborough 1st round selection in the 2018 7 Via trade with Peterborough Lakers Entry Draft and 2nd round selection in the 2019 Entry Draft for player Kyle Buchanan. About Major Series Lacrosse: Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) is the Senior “A” box lacrosse league based in Ontario, Canada and sanctioned for competition by the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA). The league is comprised of six teams: Brampton Excelsiors, Brooklin Redmen, Cobourg Kodiaks, Oakville Rock, Peterborough Lakers and Six Nations Chiefs. Each year, the top four playoff teams compete for the right to face the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) champion for the Mann Cup Senior “A” Box Lacrosse Championship of Canada, which is hosted annually in alternating years between Ontario and British Columbia. In 2018, the Peterborough Lakers defeated the WLA’s Maple Ridge Burrards in Game 4 of the Best of Seven series to capture their 17th franchise Mann Cup Championship title. .

PEARSON AWARD RECIPIENT TORONTO, ON – Lacrosse Canada has announced that Dean McLeod will be presented with the 2021 Lester B. Pearson Award. The Pearson Award is presented annually to members of the Canadian lacrosse community in recognition of their unselfish dedication and outstanding contributions of sportsmanship and distinguished leadership to the game of lacrosse and to the physical and mental development of young Canadians. McLeod’s devotion, work ethic, focus and sustained commitment to the Ontario Junior “A” Lacrosse League, and to lacrosse in his hometown of Brampton, have been exemplary. Born in Brampton, Ontario in 1945, Dean has been involved in lacrosse at virtually every position possible. However, in 1982, he took on the role for which he is most commonly identified when he became Commissioner of the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior “A” League; a position he held for over three and a half decades. At the end of the 2018 Ontario Lacrosse season, he officially announced his retirement as commissioner, ending a 37-year continuous years of service to the league. When asked for his initial response to hearing that he was named the Pearson Award recipient, Mr. McLeod stated, “When Terry Rowland (Lacrosse Canada Director of Marketing) telephoned me and told me I had been selected the 2021 recipient of the Lester B. Pearson Award, and along with it comes Life Membership through Lacrosse Canada, I was completely dumbfounded! What an unsuspected honour to have my name now sit alongside all of the great past winners of this award.

Behind an abundant amount of skill and talent, Team Canada displayed grit and passion as they perfectly executed bench-boss Coach Randy Mearns' game plan to a "T" winning 8-5 to take their third gold medal in the World Championship, dating back to their 1978 upset in England. Canada's last gold came in 2006 when the Canadians overtook the title from the U.S. in London, Ont. Canada opened their world championship journey against the United States on the opening day of the ten day tourna- ment with their only defeat in the tournament on their run through to the championship match.
