MINNESOTA WILD ACQUIRES MARCUS JOHANSSON FROM THE BUFFALO SABRES IN EXCHANGE FOR ERIC STAAL
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired left wing Marcus Johansson from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for center Eric Staal.
Johansson, 29 (10/6/90), recorded 30 points (9-21=30) and averaged 17:07 in TOI/game in 60 contests with the Buffalo Sabres this season serving as an alternate captain. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Landskrona, Sweden, recorded an assist in his 600th career NHL game on Oct. 24 at the New York Rangers. Johansson owns 364 points (129-235=364) in 648 career NHL games during 10 seasons with the Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres (2010-20). He has also collected 41 points (13-28=41) in 94 career Stanley Cup Playoff matches. Johansson has played for Sweden in five international tournaments including the 2014 Winter Olympics. He was selected by Washington in the first round (24th overall) of 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Staal, 35 (10/29/84), recorded 47 points (19-28=47) in 66 games with Minnesota this season. He was signed as a free agent by the Wild on July 1, 2016, and owns 1,021 points in 1,240 career NHL contests with Carolina, the New York Rangers and Minnesota.
