Vermont forward recruit Zemgus Girgensons was the first player off the board in the opening round on Friday with the No. 14 pick by the Buffalo Sabres, while Providence recruit Mark Jankowski went 21st overall to the Calgary Flames. Boston College defenseman Michael Matheson rounded out the first round selections at pick No. 23 by the Florida Panthers. Boston University led the way with five picks overall, while Maine, UMass-Lowell and Providence all had two incoming players selected, to go along with one selection from Boston College and Vermont. A total of 534 Hockey East student-athletes have been selected in the NHL draft in the 28-year history of the league. It marks the sixth straight season the league has boasted a first-round selection, which includes 11 first round choices in the last six NHL Entry Drafts. The 13 league players selected are the most since 13 were taken in the 2009 Entry Draft. The Hockey East Association is a 10-team Division I college men’s hockey conference founded in 1984 and an eight- team Division I women’s league which began play in 2002-03.

    NEW YORK RANGERS PROSPECT REPORT: NOV. 9 • Vitali Kravtsov has recorded 10 points (eight goals, two assists), a plus-seven rating, and 58 shots on goal in 16 KHL games with Traktor thus far this season. The Rangers’ first round pick (ninth overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft has notched a point in eight of the 16 games he has played in 2020-21, including a goal in seven of the 16 contests. He has also recorded four or more shots on goal in eight of the 16 games he has played this season, and he has either led all skaters in shots on goal or has tied for the game-high in shots on goal in six of the 16 contests. Despite missing seven games this season, he is tied for fifth in the KHL in even strength goals (seven) and is tied for 16th in the league in goals in 2020-21. Kravtsov is also tied for sixth in the KHL in shots on goal per game (3.6) and is tied for 11th in the league (min. 14 games played) in goals per game (0.50) this season. He leads Traktor in goals and even strength goals, and he is tied for second on the team in shots on goal in 2020-21. The Rangers’ fifth round pick (134th overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft is the second-youngest player on the United States’ roster and one of only six players born in 2002 who will represent the United States in the tournament. • Dylan Garand was named to Canada’s roster for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, and he will be playing in the tournament for the first time in his career. The Rangers’ fourth round pick (103rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft is the second-youngest player (and the youngest goaltender) on Canada’s roster for the tournament. Garand has the opportunity to become the second goaltender drafted by the Rangers in the NHL Entry Draft Era (since 1979) to play for Canada in the IIHF World Junior Championship, joining Dan Cloutier, who did so in 1995 (note – Doug Soetaert represented Canada in the tournament in 1975 as a 19- year-old before he was selected by the Rangers in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft; at the time, the eligibility age for the Draft was 20 years old). • Braden Schneider was named to Canada’s roster for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, and he will be playing in the tournament for the first time in his career.
