TONIGHT'S GAME The Capitals face the New York Rangers on Wednesday in the first of four meetings between the teams this season. Washington holds a 103-90-18-7 record against the Rangers all-time, a 56-40-9-4 record at home and have recorded a point in six straight games (5-0-1).

NOTE OF THE NIGHT Swede Nicky - Nicklas Backstrom, currently the franchise leader in assists, sits four assists shy of 600 career assists. Backstrom would become the first player from the 2006 NHL class to reach the 600 assist mark, and he currently has 128 more assists than Claude Giroux, who has the second-most assists from the 2006 NHL Draft class. Backstrom could become the 87th player in NHL history to reach the 600 assist mark and, according to NHL Stats, the 27th player in NHL history to reach the mark in fewer than 850 games. Additionally, Backstrom will become the ninth Swedish-born player and the second-fastest Swede to reach the mark (Peter Forsberg reached 600 assists in 670 games). Since his first NHL season in 2007-08, Backstrom ranks second in assists, only trailing (600). In the season opener this year against the , Backstrom recorded three assists and reached the 800 career point mark. Backstrom became just the third player in franchise history to record 800 career points in a Capitals sweater (Alex Ovechkin: 1,124; : 825). Backstrom leads the Caps with six assists this season, and five of them have been primary assists.

Carlson’s 68 points were the seventh-highest single season total by a Capital in franchise history. Carlson became the third Capitals defenseman to lead the NHL in points since the year 2000 (Sergei Gonchar: 2001-02, 59 points; Mike Green: 2008-09, 2009-10: 73 and 76 points, respectively).
