Et nécessaire parce qu’on ne peut continuellement repousser à demain ce qui doit être fait aujourd’hui, ou pire encore, ce qui aurait dû être fait durant des décennies. -

Canadian eview V olume 39, No. 2 Moving Forward Together: Indigenous People and Parliament p. 24 The Mace currently in use in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was made in 1906 and used for the first time in March of that year at the opening of the First Session of the First Legislative Assembly. Purchased from Ryrie Bros. Ltd. of Toronto at a cost of $340.00, it is made of heavy gold-plated brass and is about four feet long. The head consists of a Royal Crown with the arches surmounted by a Maltese cross and bears the Royal Coat-of-Arms on the top indicating the Royal Authority. Each side is decorated with a sheaf of wheat, representing the province’s agricultural wealth, a beaver representing Canada and the monogram E.R. VII, representing the sovereign at the time, Edward VII. The shaft and base are ornamented with a shamrock, thistle and rose intertwined. A Latin inscription around the Royal Coat of Arms reads in English, “Edward the Seventh, by the Grace of God of British Isles and Lands beyond the sea which are under British rule, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India”. Les 475 000 syndiqués du secteur public auront à se contenter de bien petites hausses de salaire, avec l'assurance toutefois qu'elles pourraient être revues si la situation économique s'améliore. Selon les informations réunies hier par La Presse, le gouvernement doit ce matin proposer un contrat de cinq ans aux centrales du secteur public pour régir les conditions de travail au-delà d'avril 2010. Monique Gagnon-Tremblay «est parvenue à convaincre ses collègues d'éviter le gel des salaires», ont indiqué plusieurs sources informées du côté des centrales. Jusqu'ici, certains quotidiens avaient indiqué que, pour 2010, les salaires seraient gelés dans le secteur public. (AQCPE) As part of the larger fight against the Couillard government's austerity agenda, daycare workers, administrators, parents and the population in general have taken a stand against the $120 million in cuts announced to Quebec's subsidized daycare program. Recent actions to defend accessible public childcare include the February 7 Quebec-wide rally, as well as a February 4 rally in front of the National Assembly in the lead-up to the Liberal pre-session caucus. The mass mobilization campaign also includes videos, a petition, visibility campaigns at each early childhood education centre (CPE), and human chains surrounding daycares on the first of every month, in the spirit of the monthly human chains staged in defence of public education since May 2015. The Quebec Association of Early Childhood Centres (AQCPE), and the organization Toujours fous de nos enfants (Forever Crazy About Our Kids) wrote on their Facebook pages in preparation for the February 7 action: "The CPE network has already given a lot -- more than $400 million since 2006. -

Message from the premier It is an unfortunate fact that many people still suffer, today, as the result of homophobic behaviour in Québec society, perhaps because differences, of whatever kind, are noticed—they arouse curiosity, create a reaction, and provoke certain kinds of behaviour. However, it does not take long to realize that Québec society is moving rapidly forward and remains remarkably openminded. Specifically with regard to recognition for the rights and interests of members of sexual minorities, Québec can take pride in the leading role it plays. Nevertheless, we still have work to do to overcome prejudice. The Government Action Plan Against Homophobia 20112016 provides the tools needed by players in all spheres of activity to combat homophobic behaviour. In many cases, although the players are willing to take action, they are unaware of the tools available to them; in other cases, the tools do not yet exist. This action plan offers a path leading to the achievement of the objectives targeted in the Québec Policy Against Homophobia, marking a precedent in North American society. -
