Mayfield is a versatile trumpeter, bandleader, cem- poser and arranger, recording artist, a passionate spokesman for the rich history and cultural significance of Jazz and the city that birthed it. Appointed the Cultural Ambassado r of the City of New Orleans in 2003 by the United States Senate, Congress and other governmental agencies, his name has become synonymous with the still-unfolding legacy of America's only indigenous music.     Peter Novelli peternovelli.com Guitarist / singer / songwriter Peter Novelli is based in New Orleans. The Peter Novelli Band plays Louisiana roots and blues, a blend of blues-rock-R&B-funk with some zydeco-cajun influences. Novelli’s CD Louisiana Roots & Blues (June 12 release) with his core rhythm section Darryl White (drums, formerly w/ Tab Benoit and Chris Thomas King), Chris Chew (bass, North Mississippi Allstars), Joe Krown (B3 and piano, formerly w/ late Gatemouth Brown), and special guests Chubby Carrier (Grammy-winning zydeco accordionist), Chris Thomas King (lap slide guitar, Grammy “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou”), Shamarr Allen (trumpet) and Elaine and Lisa Foster on vocals. Novelli’s debut CD, produced by bassist David Hyde, hit the charts within a month of release and gathered widespread critical acclaim. His originals, with a few selected covers, made a journey through Louisiana-American blues-roots music. Guests include Dr. John, Paul Barrere, Augie Meyers, the late Gatemouth Brown’s rhythm section, and top Lousiana musicians. The CD includes an historical Tribute To Slim Harpo, with members of Harpo’s band including James Johnson, and interviews with Johnson, the late Raful Neal and “Big” Johnny Thomassie. Novelli started violin at age 6, picked up guitar at 14 after hearing a BB King record. The intensity, passion and raw emotional content of some of the blues masters (black and white, American and British) stuck in his ear and that is what drives him to this day. He likes to combine this feel with harmonic ideas of jazz, the relentless groove of zydeco, and just about any cool and unusual style of music or rhythm that works.

    Worldwide Movie Culture Returns At This Year’s Rhode Island International Film Festival Entering its 18th year since its founding by George T. Marshall, the founder of the Flicker Arts Collaborate, RIIFF has become a focal point of international films by everyone from up-and-coming filmmakers to highly seasoned actors and directors. Between August 5 and 10 this year, roughly 270 films will be shown including Flavio Alves’ Tom In America, Marcelo Mitnik’s En las nubes (In the Clouds), and Selcuk Zvi Cara’s Mein Leztes Konzert (My Last Concert). Since 2002, the RIIFF has been a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards in short film categories. Numerous stars and celebrities have attended RIIFF over the past decade including Seymour Cassel, Andrew McCarthy, Kim Chan and Michael Showalter. Some have had the honor of receiving the Festival Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2001 it was awarded to Breakfast At Tiffany’s director, Blake Edwards, accepted by his wife, renowned actress Julie Andrews. In 2009, the honor went to the multi-Emmy and Golden Globe nominated Academy Award winner Ernest Borgnine. This year’s recipient is Theodore Bikel, known for originating the role of Captain Van Trapp in “The Sound of Music” on Broadway and Oscar nominated for 1958’s The Defiant Ones. Bikel speaks 10 languages, and will be presenting his film, “Journey 4 Artists” a multi-lingual, musical piece that seeks to bridge cultural gaps through folk music and stories, including Bosnian, Jewish and Arabic samples. It will be paired with Cara’s Mein Leztes Konzert, a short Yiddish film about a composer, which Quirk calls, “A visual poem.

    Corey Ledet was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but spent his summers with family in the small town of Parks, Louisiana. The Creole culture has it's roots in Louisiana, but spread across the country, including neighboring Texas. Because of this, he was able to be immersed at all times in the Creole culture he loves so much. Not only is Corey influenced by his Creole culture, but he is also influenced by mainstream artists of various styles, such as jazz (Hugh Masekela, George Benson), rock (Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers), funk (James Brown, Maceo Parker, Prince), blues (Stevie Ray Vaughn, Howlin' Wolf, B.B.King, John Lee Hooker), country (Brooks & Dunn, Jason Aldean), reggae (Bob Marley, J Boog) and pop (Michael Jackson, Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake). He also incorporates these various styles of music into his performances and his own original material to give incredible mixture of music for everyone. On January 3, 2003, Corey Ledet and His Zydeco Band was founded, gaining immediate local and national success. In 2004, he produced his first record, "3 Years 2 Late," on an independent label to showcase Corey's unlimited musical abilities. In 2005, he gained international success by touring Paris and Lyon, France. A year later, he entertained in Moscow, Russia. From there, he performed in Juneau, Alaska and several cities in Germany. He returned to France in 2009, to Holland in 2010, and to Maui, Hawaii in 2012. He finished off the musical decade by becoming a 55th Annual Grammy nominee for his sixth record "Nothin' But The Best." For the Grammy celebration, he was able to share the stage with Kix Brooks of Grammy Award Winning national country act "Brooks & Dunn." Corey's versatile sound enables him to energize any audience.

    DRAFT RESOLUTION to proclaim June 25, 2021 Clifton Chenier Day for his considerable contributions to music and each June 25th thereafter until 2025, the centennial year of Clifton Chenier’s birthdate WHEREAS, Clifton Chenier, was born June 25, 1925 near Opelousas, Louisiana and helped to pioneer the development of zydeco music—a southern Louisiana blend of blues rhythms, French, African American, Native American, and Afro-Caribbean traditions; and WHEREAS, Clifton Chenier, billed the King of Zydeco, was a significant force popularizing zydeco, infusing R&B and swing into his music with his chromatic piano accordion; and WHEREAS, in 1954, Clifton Chenier began his recording career under the Elko Records label and from his first recording session at Lake Charles radio station, KAOK, the regional hit singles “Cliston’s Blues” and “Louisiana Stomp” were born; and WHEREAS, in 1955, Clifton Chenier signed with Specialty Records and garnered his first national hit with his label debut "Ay-Tete Fi" (Hey, Little Girl), a cover of Professor Longhair's song; and WHEREAS, in 1976, Clifton Chenier formed the Red Hot Louisiana Band, featuring his brother and rubboard player Cleveland Chenier, saxophonist John Hart, guitarist Paul ‘Lil’ Buck’ Sinegal, guitarist Joe Brouchet, drummer Robert St. Julien and Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, who later started the Grammy- and Emmy-winning Buckwheat Zydeco band; and WHEREAS, Clifton Chenier traveled throughout Europe introducing zydeco to the world; and WHEREAS, in 1983, Clifton Chenier received a Grammy award for

In 2013 Redman released Walking Shadows, his most “sublimely lyrical” album yet (The New York Times). Redman has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and has garnered top honors in critics and readers polls of DownBeat, Jazz Times, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone.
