PROGRAMA CALETA TORTEL (07 DAYS - 06 NIGHTS) CARRETERA AUSTRAL - PATAGONIA Monday / Balmaceda Airport - Lake General Carrera. Today we’ll travel from Balmaceda Airport to Murta. During the journey we’ll appreciate a scenery full of forest of “lenga”, “coigüe” and “ñire”, this kind of vegetation surrounds the entry point to the Cerro Castillo National Reserve, composed by forests and mountains, and from where we highlight the Cerro Castillo itself (2675 meters high) and the valley of the Ibañez river. Further ahead, we will see “Laguna Verde” (Green Lagoon), surrounded by forests. We will cross the bridge “El Manso”, to later observe the flooded valley, covered with high grass and dead stems, resulting from the eruption of the Hudson Volcano in 1991. Following our road, we enter to the “Portezuelo del Río Cajón” (600 meters high). Here, the road starts to go down until arriving at Murta, a town located in a branch of the lake, General Carrera. Dinner. Lodging in the “Hotel El Puesto” or the “Complejo Turístico Valle Exploradores” (Turistic Compound Explorers Valley). Tuesday / Lake General Carrera - Puerto Bertrand Breakfast. We start our journey through the Carretera Austral Sur, bordering the Lake General Carrera with its bluish waters until we get to the town of “Puerto Río Tranquilo”. Here we will start a navigating towards the wonderful “Santuario de la Naturaleza Capillas de Mármol” (Nature Sanctuary Marble Chapels), place of great scenic beauty, where the constant waves of the lake have eroded and polished the limestone, creating beautiful caverns of intricate shapes and wide appeal. Later, we’ll continue our road, stopping where the Rivers Baker and Neff join their currents. Later we arrive at the town of Puerto Bertrand. Also, during the evening we will have the option of participating in the following tour: Guided visit the lookout of the “Glaciar Exploradores” in the Northern Ice Field (Not included - Subject to operative conditions). Dinner. Lodging in “Green Baker Lodge”. Wednesday / Puerto Bertrand - Caleta Tortel. Breakfast. We’ll take the Carretera Austral Sur towards Caleta Tortel, a surprising and beautiful town built on rocks, whose streets are endless gangways over thick vegetation and the sea. You can breathe here, the iconic aroma of Cypress of the “Güaitecas”. Dinner. Lodging in “Entre Hielos Lodge” or “Hostal del Río”. Thursday / Caleta Tortel. Breakfast. From Caleta Tortel we will navigate the Baker River Delta, stopping at the mythical Isla de Los Muertos (Island of the dead), mute witness of the history of colonization of Patagonia. Also, during the afternoon, we will be able to participate in the following optional excursion: Excursion navigation to Ventisquero Montt or Glacier Steffens (Not included - Subject to operative and climatic conditions). Dinner. Lodging in “Entre Hielos Lodge” or “Hostal del Río”. Friday / Caleta Tortel - Puerto Guandal. Breakfast. Transfer through Carretera Austral Sur, heading north. On our way, we will stop at the area called “Los Ñadis”, in order to visit an iconic chapel built by the famous father Antonio Ronchi. Later, we will continue our journey towards Puerto Guadal on the banks of the Lake General Carrera, the biggest lake in Chile and the second in South America, with a surface area of 978,12 km^2. Dinner. Lodging in “Terra Luna Lodge” or “Mirador del Guadal Lodge”. Saturday / Puerto Guadal - Coyhaique. Breakfast. We’ll start our return through the Carretera Austral towards the city of Coyhaique. Dinner. Lodging in “Hotel Raices” or “Hotel Diego de Almagro”. Sunday / Coyhaique - Aeropuerto Balmaceda Breakfast. Shared transportation to the Balmaceda Airport. Also, during the day we will be able to participate of the following optional tour: Guided visit to the “Ventisquero Colgante del Parque Queulat” (Hanging Snowdrift of Queulat Park): (Not included - Subject to operative and climatic conditions | Important: Full day expedition, requires taking an additional night in Coyhaique). We will have a full day expedition to the Queulat National Park and we’ll see the famous Hanging Snowdrift. In our way, inside the park, we will hike through parts of the trails of the “Bosque Encantado” (Enchanted Forest) and we will go into the evergreen forest to appreciate the “Salto Padre García” (Leap Padre García). Around the middle of the afternoon, we’ll get to the Puyuhuapi Fjord, one of the branches of the Pacific Ocean that go into the Patagonic Andes, where the Hanging Snowdrift will gradually show itself. Here, we will get into the trail of the lagoon, to appreciate even closer the unique forms of this impressive glacier. Later, we will continue our journey towards the town of Puerto Puyuhuapi, a beautiful small port village, with picturesque wooden houses and colorful gardens, reminiscents of the german colonization. For the arrival flight, you must consider any that arrives to Balmaceda Airport before 15 hrs. (That’s the departure time of the tour. In earlier flights, you must consider a waiting time at the airport, or, if the availability of time allows it, consider a visit to the city of Coyhaique). For the return, there’s no restriction, any flight can be taken. .
