El Calafate and El Chaltén
El Calafate and El Chaltén To visit Patagonia in Argentina El Calafate and El Chaltén are the prefect places to discover. These two small villages are situated close to the National Park Los Glaciares. El Calafate is famous with all the tourists who want to visit the Perito Moreno glacier. El Chaltén is ‘the capital’ for all the people who like to walk in the nature of the wild Patagonia. Here you can follow, with or without a guide, the different hiking trails to see breathtaking views. Day 1 8.00 Arrival at the airport of El Calafate. Here are different companies who provide a transfer service to the center of El Calafate. Because you are returning to the airport the last day from El Chaltén you can already arrange a transfer here. 10.00 Check-in in Amigos del Mundo Aparthotel. For the visit at Perito Moreno you can arrange a bus here that will pick you up at the hostel. You can also book a bus that will bring you to El Chaltén. 12.30 Visit the centre of El Calafate and here you can have lunch. The main street is Avenida del Libertador General San Martin where you can find different restaurants, souvenir shops, travel agencies,… 15.30 At about a 20-minute walk from the main street you can find Reserva Laguna Nimez. 16.00 Visit the Laguna. PURO INCENTIVO UN MUNDO APARTE Adentrarse en la parte norte de la carretera austral, en la región chilena de Aysén y en plena Patagonia, es lo mismo que penetrar en un universo desconocido. Es un paisaje único, el de las bellas postales patagónicas, que sirve además de marco para actividades inolvidables. 54 Región de Aysén (Chile) Por Rocío López Alemany Los límites de la Patagonia son difusos y se pierden en algún punto entre la región de Los Lagos y la Antártida chilena. Entre medias se extienden dos regiones que pertenecen a Chile desde el punto de vista administrativo: la de Aysén y la de Magallanes. Ambas son testigo de cómo el paisaje va cambiando. El océano Pacífico y la cordillera de los Andes, el conjunto montañoso más grande de la tierra, generan un paisaje de picos nevados, fiordos y pequeñas islas donde detenerse y recapacitar sobre la fuerza sobrehumana de la naturaleza. Son escenarios perfectos para la práctica de kayak, rafting, trekking... así como pausas saludables en termas y piscinas naturales. En la región de Aysén la Carretera Austral se divide en dos rutas, la norte y la sur. El recorrido completo se extiende 1.240 kilóme- tros. La zona sur se caracteriza por un paisaje más sosegado y seco y la norte, por las lluvias intermitentes que provocan que el entorno ofrezca una mayor paleta de colores en los que impera el verde. Es un paisaje poco iluminado por la luz del astro rey: los habitantes de la Patagonia Chilena sólo cuentan con 30 días de sol al año.
