Integrated with medical knowledge and clinical experience of themselves, the experienced doctors can obtain the sizes, locations, shapes and other pathological characteristics of brain tumors according to the information in MRI images to make scientific and reasonable therapeutic treatment. Because there are several MRI examinations for every patient in the whole therapeutic treatment, each of which can give data in multiple sequences, it is a large amount of data to be dealt with for the doctors. Long time of hard work will inevitably lead to mistakes in the diagnosis of the tumor contours for the doctors. Moreover, it is subjective for the doctors to determine the state of the diseases according to their medical knowledge and clinical experiences. Therefore, developing an automatic or a semi-automatic computer-aided diagnosis system is meaningful in real medical treatments, which can release the workload of doctors and improve the accuracy by giving objective

WORKSHOP REPORT “LANDMINE CHALLENGES TO HUMANITY & ENVIRONMENT” Imphal, MANIPUR (INDIA) 17 October 2006 Manipur Committee for Social Concern (MCSC) came into being in 2000 to work to bring about peace for the people of Manipur. It brings together well qualified academics, intellectu- als and activists. It conducts seminars and field work with local voluntary contributions and aims to spread awareness to bring a solution to various contentious issues. The Indian Institute for Peace, Disarmament and Environmental Protection (IIPDEP) was founded in August 1993. It is a non-political, non-profit NGO Research, whose main ob- jectives are public education and awareness raising in the field of peace and disarmament. IIPDEP has been part of the Indian Campaign to Ban Landmines (Indian CBL) since March 1995, essentially conducting public education and awareness development activities in this respect. To date, the IIPDEP has organized 48 regional seminars and mine risk education (MRE) workshops in various state capitals and in volatile regions such as Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India. It has also organized MRE workshops in villages along the India- Pakistan border. Geneva Call is a neutral, international humanitarian NGO formed under Swiss law and launched in March 2000 with the objective of engaging armed non-State actors (NSAs) worldwide to adhere to a total ban on anti-personnel (AP) mines and respect other humanitar- ian norms. To facilitate this process, Geneva Call provides a mechanism whereby NSAs, which are not eligible to accede to treaties, can commit to a mine ban by signing a “Deed of Commitment Under Geneva Call for Adherence to a Total Ban on Anti-Personnel Mines and for Cooperation in Mine Action”.

  • Andhra Pradesh; and 3 Percent of Incidents in Bihar and Tripura (26 and 25 Respectively) but with 5 Percent of Fatalities (156) in Bihar and 3 Percent (25) in Tripura
Munich Personal RePEc Archive Terrorist Incidents in India, 1998–2004: A Quantitative Analysis of Fatality Rates Borooah, Vani University of Ulster 2009 Online at https://mpra.ub.uni-muenchen.de/19423/ MPRA Paper No. 19423, posted 23 Dec 2009 08:01 UTC Terrorist Incidents in India, 1998-2004: A Quantitative Analysis of Fatality Rates+ Vani K. Borooah* University of Ulster December 2008 Abstract Using data from the University of Maryland’s Global Terrorism Database II, this paper first provides information on the nature of terrorist incidents in India in the period 1998-2004: the Indian states that were worst affected by terrorist incidents and fatalities; the terrorist groups responsible for such incidents and their modus operandi. Next, the paper focuses on the issue of fatalities from terrorist incidents. It inquires into the extent to which the number of fatalities following an incident was influenced by the type of attack (bombings, armed assault etc.) and the extent to which it was influenced by the type of terrorist group. By examining the number of fatalities resulting from terrorist attacks in India, the paper disentangles the influence on this number of attack type and attack group. Lastly, the paper applies Atkinson’s concept of equality-adjusted income to terrorism to arrive at the concept of equality-adjusted deaths from terrorist incidents: in order to avoid spectacular incidents resulting in the loss of a large number of lives – as in New York on September 11, 2001 and in Mumbai 26-29 November 2008 – “society” might be prepared to tolerate “low-grade” terrorism which resulted in a larger number of deaths in total but avoided a large number of deaths from a single iconic incident.
