Reading a guidebook to some of Jordan’s most famous sights can seem like an exercise in lin- guistics – including Latin, Nabataean, Greek, Arabic and the languages of geography and classical architecture. Listen to any tour guide, especially at Petra, and you’ll assume they’re expert in all of them. But you don’t have to be a polyglot to make the most of Jordan’s wonders.
