J.F. BYRNES BAND NEWS- APRIL 2016 SPRING CONCERT- APRIL 21 ST • Call Time is 6:30pm for all band members • Concert begins 7pm (Fine arts Center) • Attire- 9th and 1 st block (wear all black) • 3rd Block- Wear same thing as we did for concert festival*** • This event is REQUIRED for all second semester band members. • The concert will conclude approx. 8pm • The concert is free and open to the public ***3RD BLOCK GUYS: • Black Dress shoes or band shoes – NOT tennis shoes • Black socks (not white, not pink) • Black dress pants- NOT black jeans • White Tuxedo shirt- NOT white dress shirt or golf shirt- NOT stained yellow shirt • Please wear a plain T shirt underneath your tuxedo shirt (not one with print on it) • Bow ties and Cummerbounds will be provided ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCES/AWARDS NIGHT APRIL 28TH Our annual awards night will be April 28th at 7pm in the Fine Arts Center. We will have several ensembles performing as well. There will be a sign up sheet posted in the band room for students to sign up and perform. The awards night is not required. We will recognize students with awards they have earned during the year and also highlight the senior class of 2016. All HS concert band members and all marching band members are invited (including current 8 th graders who marched last fall) SOLO AND ENSEMBLE- APRIL 29 TH , DORMAN 9 TH GRADE CAMPUS The schedule for solo and ensemble has been posted in the band room. Bus transportation will be provided for those who need it. The bus will leave at 4:20pm that day and return by 9:45pm. Upperclassmen are encouraged to drive on their own. If you don’t want to ride the bus home: parent must sign them you out in person w Mr. Rhoden at Dorman and they won’t have to ride the bus home. It has to be THEIR parent or legal guardian (not someone elses). Mr Rhoden will be in the cafeteria at Dorman 9 th . There are concessions available at Dorman. Please plan ahead and work on your solo and/or ensemble so you are ready for this event. This is required for 9 th grade and optional for 10-12 th . UP-COMING DATES TO REMEMBER: April 21- Spring Concert- REQUIRED FOR ALL 2 ND SEMESTER BAND CLASSES April 28- Ensemble Performances/Awards Night (for all 2015 RR members incl. 8 th graders that marched) April 29 – Solo and Ensemble (Required for 9 th grade 4 th block- Optional for 10-12 th graders) April 30 Car Show/Spring Bazzar (Jazz band and drumline will be performing) May 12 th - Marching Band mini-camp/Required parent meeting BHS Cafeteria 7-9pm May 16 th Chick-fil-A spirit night (eat at chic fil a and they give a % to the band) May 21 st - Band Car Wash- more details in next newsletter 2016 MARCHING BAND Students who have been invited to be in 2016 marching band were given a packet of info- That info can also be found at: http://byrnesband.org/forms/ NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS TRIP TO INDIANAPOLIS, IN The band will be going to the national championships for the first time in over a decade. We plan to attend this event only once every four years. The cost per student for this trip is $275. Checks should be made payable to RBBC (Rebel Band Booster Club). These can be turned in to the lock box in the BHS band room or given to (Mrs. Crutchlow or Mrs. Cotter) TRIP PAYMENT SCHEDULE: March 1 st $50 April 1st $75 May 1 st $75 June 1 st $75 SOME OF THE TENTATIVE MARCHING BAND DATES: SUMMER PRACTICE “Band Camp”: August 1-6 and August 8-13 These are usually indoors in afternoon/outdoors at night. Detailed times will be given at the May Mini Camp - Percussion & Color Guard will have some additional summer rehearsals before Band Camp begins. FULL BAND FOOTBALL GAMES (Required) Away games will be optional except Sept 30th Aug 26, Sept 9 and 23 rd , Oct 7, 14 and 21 st , Oct 28 th (possible full band away game Sept 30 th ) MEET THE REGIMENT - SEPTEMBER 17 TH (Mini-camp with Evening Performance) COMPETITION SATURDAYS (reserve full day for travel/performance) Nationals is the only overnight trip- all others are day trips - Oct 22 nd there will not be a competition • OCT 1 C. PHILIP MCINTYRE TOURNAMENT OF BANDS (We host and perform) • OCT 8 IRMO ESPRIT DE CORPS INVITATIONAL (Location tentative) • OCT 15 BANDS OF AMERICA REGIONAL- NC • OCT 29 BANDS OF AMERICA SUPER REGIONAL- Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA • NOV 5 STATE 5A COMPETITION- Usually in Columbia area of SC • NOV 10-13 NATIONALS TRIP- Lucas Oil Stadium- Indianapolis, IN .
