    Weekly Capsule 1st – 7th Feb 2018 Economy and banking New e-way bill system for transportation of goods to be effective today: • A new e-way bill system came into effect from 1st Feb. to bring uniformity across the states for seamless inter-state movement of goods. Under the new system, every transporters will have to carry a system-generated bill to move goods from one place to another. • Under the Goods and Services Tax, inter-state transportation of goods beyond 10 kilometres with a value of 50,000 rupees and above, will mandatorily require e-way bill. • Last month, the GST Council decided to implement the e-way bill mechanism throughout the country from 1st of February, 2018. What is e-way bill? E-way bill is an electronic way bill for movement of goods which can be generated on the GSTN (common portal). A ‘movement’ of goods of more than Rs 50,000 in value cannot be made by a registered person without an e-way bill.
