    The New Cambridge Medieval History The fourth volume of The New Cambridge Medieval History covers the eleventh and twelfth centuries, which comprised perhaps the most dynamic period in the European middle ages. This is a history of Europe, but the continent is interpreted widely to include the Near East and North Africa as well. The volume is divided into two Parts of which this, the second, deals with the course of events, ecclesiastical and secular, and major developments in an age marked by the transformation of the position of the papacy in a process fuelled by a radical reformation of the church, the decline of the western and eastern empires, the rise of western kingdoms and Italian elites, and the development of governmental structures, the beginnings of the recovery of Spain from the Moors and the establishment of western settlements in the eastern Mediterranean region in the wake of the crusades. LG 2014-2015 LG ELG전자lectronics 지속가능경영보고서 Sustainability Report 2014-2015 LG ELECTRONICS SUSTAINABILITY REPORT REPORT OVERVIEW LIFE’s Good with LG REPORT OVERVIEW In preparing our 2014-2015 Sustainability Report, LG Electronics adopted the G4 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). As part of the new process for implementing the latest edition of the guidelines, we reviewed the previous year’s edition and best practice cases from corporations at home and abroad against the latest indices to identify the aspects that are lacking in our report. In order to address these aspects and prepare a more comprehensive and insightful report, we had extensive communication with business departments, focusing primarily on our strengths and weaknesses. We also reached out to our internal and ex- ternal stakeholders through a wide range of communication programs to seek their opinions, and performed a materiality analysis to identify the information that is considered material to stakeholders as well as to LG Electronics. Based on the findings, we tried to introduce information concerning “Material Aspects” as defined by the G4 guidelines. In realtà la prolungata situazione di crisi militare sul fronte danubiano determinò un più generale scompaginamento del sistema ‘ordinario’ di governo, amministrativo e militare, delle province. Claudius Fronto, morto nel 170, è forse il caso più noto), si fece appello anche ai migliori tra gli ufficiali equestri, conferendo loro incarichi militari straordinari e permettendo che assumessero ruoli e funzioni che in condizioni normali non sarebbero spettati loro. Marco Aurelio si trovò costretto dalla tragica necessità di quegli anni a ridisegnare (al- meno temporaneamente) la ‘geopolitica’ delle province, rivedendo la divisione tra senatorie ed imperiali (ma pure tra province di rango pretorio e consolare) e ricorrendo anche a soluzioni straordinarie (accorpamenti di province, corretto- rati senatorii, procuratele equestri abbinate ad incarichi militari).     Map 52 Byzantium Compiled by C. Foss, 1997 Introduction Map 52 Byzantium Map 53 Bosphorus Map 52 encompasses two very different regions, Thrace and Bithynia, together with the northern coast of Mysia. Thrace, now European Turkey, is open, rolling country with few prominent features. In classical times, its population was mainly tribal, and it never had any great density of settlement. It has also attracted relatively little research and remains largely unknown, not least because considerable areas have been military zones. The coast of the Propontis, however, was the home of Greek colonies whose names are already attested in the Athenian tribute lists of the fifth century B.C. It also became the site of the greatest city of the East, Constantinople, which dwarfed all the others in Late Antiquity (see below). Bithynia is entirely different. Its coastal regions, with the lakes behind them, are part of the Mediterranean zone. Throughout antiquity, the rich vegetation here supported dense settlement and continuous occupation. Behind, there is broken country with mountains that culminate in the Mysian Olympus; the eastern part is watered by the mighty R. Sangarius. Interior Bithynia was settled only in the Hellenistic period; it flourished in Roman times, when Nicomedia amd Nicaea were rival metropolitan centers. The regions of these two cities have been illuminated by the explorations and publications of Dörner and Şahin, and a broad district around Cyzicus by Hasluck. Much of the rest awaits systematic survey. Map 53 focuses on the area of transition between the extremities of these two regions, centered on the long narrow channel of the Thracian Bosphorus.
