The following study presents the corridor as it was, as it is, and as it could be. Through a series of recommendations, this report intends to offer a vision of the corridor as an urbanized, livable, and beautiful corridor in keeping with the Official Plan’s Avenues policies and based on the following principles: Locating new and denser housing types that encourage a mix of use, make efficient use of lands, frame the right-of-way, are appropriately massed and attractively designed.

This report recommends that the private right of way located between Dufferin Street and Keele Street be named “York University Busway”. RECOMMENDATIONS The City Surveyor recommends that: (1) the private right of way located between Dufferin Street and Keele Street be named “York University Busway”; and (2) the appropriate City Officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto, including the introduction of a naming by-law. Financial Impact There are no financial implications resulting from the adoption of this report. ISSUE BACKGROUND The new TTC York University bus route is located between Downsview Station and York University. Part of the bus route, between Dufferin Street and Keele Street, is on a private right of way and is not officially identified. To assist in the dispatch of emergency services, the right of way should be officially named as the “York University Busway”. Street Naming – York University Busway COMMENTS The name “York University Busway” has been circulated for comment and is acceptable to the Toronto Transit Commission, Councillor Perruzza, the North York Preservation Panel, Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The proposed name is consistent with the City of Toronto Street Naming Policy approved by City Council at its meeting held on August 1, 2, 3 and 4, 2000 and amended May 30, 31 and June 1, 2001 and should therefore be approved for identifying the private right of way.
