Brain Awareness Week Partner List Brain Awareness Week is the global campaign to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science. Every March, partners host imaginative activities in their communities that share the wonders of the brain and the impact brain science has on our everyday lives. Partners include colleges and universities, hospitals, medical research institutions, K-12 schools, advocacy groups, outreach organizations, professional associations, government agencies, corporations, and more. Since its founding in 1996, Brain Awareness Week has included the participation of more than 8,200 partners in 124 countries. Website at http://nigeria.usembassy.gov PRESS RELEASE June 25, 2021 For Immediate Release U.S. Embassy Abuja Partners Channels Academy to Train Conflict Reporters The U.S. Embassy Abuja, in partnership with Channels Academy, has trained over 150 journalists on Conflict Reporting and Peace Journalism. In her opening remarks, the U.S. Embassy Spokesperson/Press Attaché Jeanne Clark noted that the United States recognized that security challenges exist in many forms throughout the country, and that journalists are confronted with responsibility to prioritize physical safety in addition to meeting standards of objectivity and integrity in conflict. She urged the journalists to share their experiences throughout the course of the three-day seminar and encouraged participants to identify new ways to address these security challenges. The trainer Professor Steven Youngblood from the U.S. Center for Global Peace Journalism – Park University defined and presented principles for peace journalism in conflict reporting. He cautioned journalists to refrain from what he termed war journalism. He said, "war journalism is a pattern of media coverage that includes overvaluing violent, reactive responses to conflict while undervaluing non-violent, developmental responses.” The Provost of Channels Academy, Mr Kingsley Uranta, showed appreciation for the continuous partnership with the U.S. Embassy and for bringing such training opportunities to Nigerian journalists. He also called on conflict reporters to be peace ambassadors. The training took place virtually via Zoom on June 22 – 24, 2021. Journalists converged in American Spaces in Abuja, Kano, Bauchi Sokoto, Maiduguri, Awka, and Ibadan.

Department of Business Administration Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, Anambra State Nigeria Abstract This study examined poverty situation in Awka metropolis of Anambra State, Nigeria, using the P-alpha class of poverty measure. To achieve this objective, a structured questionnaire was administered to 399 heads of households selected from mixed socio-economic backgrounds. The study revealed that 49 percent of the respondents were considered to be poor, with 0.17 poverty gap index and a 0.03 severity of poverty index. However, the indicators were considered to be modest when compared with the national rates. The causes of poverty in Awka metropolis include: lack or inadequate supply of some identified basic necessities of life such as shelter, potable water, and sanitation, basic healthcare services, electricity and educational services. As a result of these inadequacies, there are psychological distress, increase in destitution, child labour, violent crime, and prostitution. It was therefore recommended among others that government should step up public investment in urban infrastructure, provision of credit facilities, involvement of the people in development decision that affects their lives or participatory budgetary process and most especially, good governance at the municipal level with accountability and transparency to stamp out corrupt tendencies which has inhibited past developmental efforts of the government.

Jones Oak Street. died at the county infirmary on Thursday, October 17, 1895 at the age Block 26, lot 7 & 8 of eighty-six. He was once a leading and influential citizen of Baraboo. Sanborn map location 710 Oak Street He conducted a Tin Shop and Hardware Store on Oak as early as 1857 where D. S. Holcombe had a livery and feed barn in 1895. This was probably in the 600 Block. Afterwards he was in partnership with another gentleman and the firm was near where C. E. Ryan had his jewelry store in 1895. He eventually met with financial failure and lost his property. In 1857, H. A. Peck & R. A. Orvis kept a Drug Store at approximately this address, probably moving from 133 Third Avenue. In 1861 Peck increased the depth of the building to 70 feet. It is believed that Peck was still here in 1864. In May of 1864, George H. Hall & H. T. Savage opened a clothing store formerly occupied by Peck & Orvis. In September of 1864, Mrs. J. Kennedy announced to the ladies of Baraboo and the vicinity that she had opened a Ladies Furnishing Store just north of Ryan’s Jewelry Store. In May of 1866, Doane & Barstow were busy remodeling the Oak Street circa 1903 building north of Ryan’s Jewelry Store. When completed they planned on stocking the store with dry goods and groceries.

    An Urgent Statement from Hospitals in the City of Toronto and the Regions of Durham, Halton, Peel and York GTA Hospitals Support Further Lockdown Measures December 20, 2020 - Today, on behalf of our patients, health care workers and staff, we are supporting the Ontario Hospital Association’s call for stronger lockdown measures from the Government of Ontario. Across the Greater Toronto Area, COVID-19 infections are continuing to rise, as are hospitalizations and intensive care cases. These trends show no sign of slowing – in fact, a surge in cases following the holiday season is expected to make the situation even worse. Our staff are caring for increasing numbers of COVID-19 patients in hospitals and assisting in other settings such as long-term care homes. They are also keeping up with the care needs of patients without COVID-19 and trying to make progress in the significant backlog of scheduled surgeries and procedures cancelled during the first wave. For many months now, these frontline health care workers have been devoting enormous energy and skill to caring for their patients, at the very epicenter of the pandemic. They are stressed and overstretched. This level of strain is simply not sustainable for much longer. We are seeing increasing numbers of staff becoming ill and not able to work – both with COVID-19 and other illnesses. While we are coping and planning for redeployment, we are seeing more illness and stress and hearing about the toll this is taking on people’s families. We recognize that lockdown measures are challenging for many members of our communities, but we cannot afford to put patients and health care workers at further risk.
