In addition to interesting/valuable presentations the group participated in a variety of cultural events: guided tour of historic Ogden’s colorful past; experienced two Grand Hotels; and enjoyed front-row seats to the 4th of July practice for the Tabernacle Choir at Temple. Spouses additionally visited Park City and learned to make candles! Hats off to Matt Throckmorton, Kit Workman, Jordon Chandler, and Whitney Horning for being exceptional hosts and putting on a truly outstanding event! 2! A few AMCSUS member schools recently hired outside entities to review their provide branding recommendations. Three schools (Army and Navy Academy, Randolph-Macon Academy, and Lyman Ward) have been quite pleased with the the outside review and experience and are moving forward with many of the recommendations (e.g. logos, names, videos, tag lines, etc.). Speaking of which: What’s in a Name? Lyman Ward Military Academy recently changed its name to Southern Preparatory Academy. President Jared Norell confirms its military focus and programs are unchanged and it hopes to lever- age the new name to move the school forward. Enhanced AMCSUS Website Advertising New Banner Advertising NOW Available Mob42 is an AMCSUS sponsor and the team which developed our AMCSUS.org website and handles its content.     EDUCATION RESOURCES Youth & Young Adult Options Scholarships for Military Children Program Over the past 15 years, commissaries have awarded more than $16 million in scholarships to more than 8,012 military children. The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created to recognize military families’ contributions to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the commissary’s role in the military family community. At least one $2,000 scholarship is awarded at every commissary location that receives qualified applications. More than one scholarship per commissary may be available based on the response and funding. The scholarship provides for payment of tuition, books, lab fees and other college-related expenses. To be eligible, applicants must: Be under age 23 Be a dependent, unmarried child of active-duty personnel, Reserve Component members, National Guard and retired military members, survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military Ensure that they and their sponsor are currently enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS database) Have a current dependent military ID card Be enrolled or plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall term (Students attending a community or junior college must be enrolled in a program of studies that allows them to transfer directly into a four-year program.) Sir: Many students apply for admission to higher institutions in other States and sections than those in which they have received their high-school preparation. Many also seek certificates from ex¬ amining and licensing boards, which have no direct means of know¬ ing the standards of the schools from which the applicants come. The demand for this information led the Bureau of Education, first in the spring of 1913 and again in the autumn of 1914, to undertake the collection and preparation of lists of high schools and academies accredited by State universities, approved by State departments of education, or recognized by examining and certifying boards and by certain other agencies. The demand proved to be even greater than had been anticipated. The first edition of the bulletin was soon exhausted. There have be^n many requests from college and uni¬ versity officers for copies of the second edition. Moreover, changes are made in these lists of accredited schools from year to year.
