Participants engaged in a variety of timely and relevant topics: Military Charter overview; Utah ; flaws in American education; changes in educational environment, comparing forces of flight with success in life; addressing a America’s drug problem; Dean- Commandant relationship; and an open forum on collective action opportunities.

AMCSUS Newsletter Jul 2019 Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States Commandants Workshop Blends Work with a Bit of Play! The 2019 Commandant’s Workshop was a home run! In addition to interesting/valuable presentations the group participated in a variety of cultural events: guided tour of historic Ogden’s colorful past; experienced two Grand Hotels; and enjoyed front-row seats to the 4th of July practice for the Tabernacle Choir at Temple. Spouses additionally visited Park City and learned to make candles! Hats off to Matt Throckmorton, Kit Workman, Jordon Chandler, and Whitney Horning for being exceptional hosts and putting on a truly outstanding event!

A few AMCSUS member schools recently hired outside entities to review their provide branding recommendations. Three schools (, Randolph-Macon Academy, and Lyman Ward) have been quite pleased with the the outside review and experience and are moving forward with many of the recommendations (e.g. logos, names, videos, tag lines, etc.). What’s in a Name?

Lyman Ward Military Academy recently changed its name to Southern Preparatory Academy. President Jared Norell confirms its military focus and programs are unchanged and it hopes to lever- age the new name to move the school forward.
