Begonia ignita C.W.Lin & C.I Peng, a new species of Begonia sect. Petermannia from Sulawesi, Indonesia, is here described and illustrated. It is distinct from other species in Begonia section Petermannia by a character combination including a procumbent stem ascending only at the apex, symmetric or subsymmetric leaves, the presence of a pale band or maculation running parallel to the leaf margin, and orange tepals. A detailed comparison with a morphologically similar species, the Sulawesi endemic Begonia mendumiae M.Hughes, is provided. Keywords. We also thank participants at Singapore Management University for comments during a research seminar. 3 Building on Grice’s (1975) theory of “conversational implicature,” we propose that consumers will react favorably to unusual color or flavor names (e.g., blue haze or Alpine snow) because they expect marketing messages to convey useful information. If the message is not informative or does not conform to expectations, consumers search for the reason for the deviation. This search results in additional (positive) attributions about the product, and thus, a more favorable response. The results of a series of experiments provide empirical support for our proposal and rule out some alternative explanations for the success of ambiguous naming strategies. 4 An examination of the colors in a Crayola crayon box reveals an interesting phenomenon – while the original Crayola crayons box contained six colors (black, blue, brown, green, orange, and red), Crayola now offers 120 different colors, and the most recent of these (e.g., purple heart, razzmatazz, tropical rain forest, fuzzy wuzzy brown) are increasingly ambiguously named. These types of ambiguous color (and flavor) names have been proliferating and are appearing in all sorts of product categories from ice-cream (e.g., Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby) to juice drinks (e.g., Gatorade’s Glacier Freeze) to nail polish (e.g., Hard Candy’s Trailer Trash), leading at least one reporter to exclaim, “there is no red” (Schulz 2001).

Harlapur Abstract This chapter highlights on the applications of marigold plant extracts as an antibacterial and antimicrobial best dyer for textiles. Tagetes erecta usually known as Marigold is a vital wellspring of carotenoids and lutein, developed as a nursery plant. Marigold blossoms are yellow to orange red in colour. Now a days, lutein is transforming into an unquestionably common powerful fixing, used as a part of the medicines, food industry and textile coatings. This has increased more notice- able vitality of marigold and its exceptional concealing properties. Regardless of the way that marigold blooms; its extract has been used as a measure of veterinary supports. The examination was directed to contemplate the usage of a concentrate of marigold as a trademark shading, which is antibacterial and antimicrobial. The marigold extract ability was focused on colouring of the cotton fabrics. Investigations of the dye ability, wash fastness, light fastness, antibacterial tests and antimicrobial tests can be endeavoured. Studies have exhibited that surface concealing was not impacted by washing and drying in the shadow/sunlight.     ARNOLDIA A continuation of the BULLETIN OF POPULAR INFORMATION of the Arnold Arboretum, Harvard University VOLUME 23 APRIL 5, 1963 NUMBER 3 CULTIVARS IN THE GENUS CHAENOMELES CLAUDE WEBER THE GENUS CHAENOMELES includes the plants commonly known as Japanese or Flowering Quinces, or Japonicas. They are shrubs with bright and showy flowers, blooming normally in the early spring, before the leaves come out, at a time when few other flowers are available in the garden. For this reason, the Flowering Quinces have been popular ever since the first species was introduced to European gardens at the end of the eighteenth century. Before its introduction into Europe, the botanist Thunberg had seen a Flowering Quince growing in Japan. He thought it was a new kind of pear tree, and de- scribed it, in 1784, as Pyrus japonica. A few years later, in 1796, Sir Joseph Banks, director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, introduced the first Japanese Quince into England, assuming it was Thunberg’s species. In 1807, Persoon recognized that because of its numerous seeds this species did not belong to the genus Pyrus, but rather to Cydonia, the common Quince. The plant therefore became known as Cydonia japonica (Thunb.) Pers. In 1822 Lindley established the genus Chaenomeles, distinguishing it from Cydonia primarily by the character of the fruits. Subsequent observations and studies have confirmed Lindley’s opinion, yet some nurserymen still continue to list the species of Chaenomeles under Cydonia. Chaenomeles possesses reniform stipules; short, entire, glandless sepals erect at anthesis; stamens in two rows; completely fused carpels; and styles fused at the base forming a column.
