LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, Your Council have pleasure in submitting their Annual Report and Financial Statement for the year 190), and you will be gratified to note that the financial result is the most satisfactory yet presented. The 33rd Annual Show of the Association was in every respect a record one. It was opened on Wednesday, 12th August, by His Excellency Lord Chelmsford, K.C.M.G. (accompanied by Lady Chelmsford), who very tindly performed the opening ceremony in the presence of a very large number of visitors. The Show was open from Monday, 10th, to Saturday, 15th August, Monday and Tuesday being judging days. Splendid weather prevailed throughout, and the public visited the Show in great numbers. It is estimated that the attendance on opening day reached 48,000, while the gate takings for the week realised the magnificent sum of £ ,320 13s. 5d. Official Luncheon. The Official Luncheon was held in the Museum Gardens, and proved, as usual, a most enjoyable and successful function. Mr. J. II. McConnel, President, occupied the chair. Prize Schedule and Catalogue. This year the Council undertook the publishing themselves, instead of, as in previous years, accepting a bonus from one of the local printers. The result proved fairly satisfactory, and from the experience gained this year it is expected that better results will follow. Ground Improvements during 1908. Ground Improvements to thI value of over £t1,000 have been carried out this year, amongst thli i beig -- Erection of a two-storied billiling utilised for Police purposes. Terrace of 22 new loose boxus for horses. Erection of Collecting Yard adjoining the Show Ring. Alteration of fence of old grand stand. Erection of additional seating for the public around the ring and on the hill. Etc., etc. Municipal Reserve (Alexandra Park). The City Council again generously placed this reserve at our disposal for three months during Show time, but it was not made use of this year. We hope to secure the same privilege for next year. 4 New Grand Stand. This continues to prove a source of revenue to your Council, the gate receipts from day to day during the Exhibition week being £854, as against £857 in 1907, the slight decrease being attributable to the increased membership. A contract has been let to Messrs. Walls and Juster for the completion of the original design at a cost of £1,402. It is expected this will be completed by the end of April. Further accommodation will thus be available for seating the public and for catering purposes. Visits to Shows. During the year 88 Shows have been visited by the Members of the Council and its Officers, as follows :-Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Lismore, Glen Innes, Tenterfield, Murwillumbah, Allora, Beaudesert, Beenleigh, Biggenden, Boonah, Bundaberg, Charters Towers, Clifton, Crow's Nest, Dalby, Esk, Gympie, Goondiwindi, Ipswich, Lookyer, Lowood, Mackay, Mareeba, Nerang, North Pine, Rockhampton, Southport, Stanthorpe, Toowoomba, Warwick, Well- ington Point. Our Secretary, when visiting the Royal Agricultural Society at Easter, approached the Council of that Society with the object of enabling Members of this Association to use their tickets at the Easter Royal Show in Sydney, and, subsequently, arrangements have been made by which Members' tickets are interchangeable for the Brisbane and Sydney Shows. Your Council feel sure that Members will avail themselves of this privilege, as, undoubtedly, it cements the very strong friendship that at present exists between the leading Agricultural Shows of N.S.W. and Queensland. Press. Representatives of the Press of the State of Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, as usual gave us very liberal support, the two latter States sending special pressmen to represent them at the Show. Exhibits. Live Stock. It will be seen by the comparison of entries that live stock were this year in some respects an advance of former years, but the tick trouble prevented us from receiving at least 50 per cent. more of live stock entries. Sheep exhibits were larger than they have been for some time. Angora Goats were also on the increase. Swine, Dogs, and Poultry being well represented. There was also a specially fine display of Farm and Dairy Produce and Horticulture exhibits, mainly owing to the fact that one of the district exhibits adjacent to Brisbane was not taking part this year, thus enabling the fruit growers and others in and around the Moreton district to exhibit their specialties. The Industrial division this year was again fully represented, while the exhibit shown by the Government State Farms was once more excellently displayed. New Exhibits This Year. The Wool Court proved instructive and highly interesting. An opportunity was taken to obtain entries for Butter stored eight weeks, selected at random. This competition was largely entered for and keenly criticised by those interested in this important industry. The Sheep Dog Trials in the ring were also a now feature this year, and bear promise of better results in the future. Champions of the State. For the second time the Champions of the National Show have been awarded the Championship of Queensland, a list of 1908 Champions will be found on Pages 40 and 41. Illustrated Lecture on Sanitary Milk Was delivered by Mr. C. J. Pound in the Council Room on 16th June, and was largely attended. Lease of Forms, Chairs and Ticket Boxes to City Council.
