2001 Travel, Sports & Entertainment Auction Monday, August 24, 2020 Dear Friend of Scouting, The Boy Scouts of America (Tax ID 59-0624376) continues to strive to make this country better one youth at a time. Our aim is to create an environment for youth throughout Central Florida to become better versions of themselves and continue to prepare them to become leaders of character our communities and our country need to heal and grow! Youth in Scouting learn to make the right choices, put others before themselves, and lead with compassion and confidence, gifts that are cherished well into adulthood. As we continue our tradition of providing a first-class character education and leadership program and to meet the demands of serving our growing Scouting membership of over 23,000 youth, the Central Florida Council needs your help by supporting our Online Auction! We know this year has been difficult for many of us. Your support this year means more than ever! Yes, we are going online due to social distancing guidelines. Our online auction will include a variety of fabulous auction items for everyone to bid on- near and afar. Items will include leisure retreats, deluxe golf outings, indulgent spa packages - all to ensure Scouting’s continued youth program of character development and values- based leadership training. His father worked for Taca Airlines and mother worked for the U.S. government at the Panama Canal. Ed is one of three children. He has a brother that served in the Peace Corp and worked as a social worker in San Jose, California. Ed’s sister, Janice, was the former mayor of Cocoa Beach from 1993-1999. One of Ed’s fondest memories of Scouting was a backpacking trip through Volcán Barú National Park. The summit of Panama’s highest peak at 11,400 feet is the only place in the world where you can see the sunrise in the Atlantic and the sunset in the Pacific. He later put those scouting skills to use by taking his college friends back to the National Park. At Balboa High School, Ed played baseball and football. Upon graduation, he went to Michigan State University where he played baseball. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication arts and political science from honors college at Michigan State University in only 3 years (without going to summer school). After graduation, he found work with the Panama Canal’s personnel department.

Most notably, National Jamboree figures are shown at the bottom of this explanation and, unless otherwise noted, are excluded from the charts and graphs below. This ensures that this one event, which only occurs every 4 years, most recently in 2017, does not cause fluctuations on both the income and expense lines. The standard monthly financials presented throughout the year, some of which compare current year and past year values, will not be separated out in this fashion. In addition, starting in 2017 and continuing in 2018, income and expenses were tracked at more granular levels, which results in some significant swings between years for some line items, especially in expenses.
