BVHS is Post of the year At the IT Explorers April meeting, students participated in a joint collaborative session with students from the University of Findlay. The university’s computer science faculty hosted an “Hour of Code” for the students. During the session, Explorers and UF students broke into groups and programmed a Lego robot to navigate a maze. The robot program featured a drag and drop environment to expose the Explorers to the basics of computer programming. The robot’s program used information read from a sensor determine where the lines for the maze existed in order to navigate from start to finish. IT Explorers runs throughout the school year and will be holding its first meeting for the 2015 -2016 school year on October 6. Explorers meet the first and third Tuesday of every month. For more information on becoming part of the IT Explorers, contact Shawn Altman. Engineering Explorers Visit ONU The final Engineering Explorers event of the 2014-2015 school year was held on May 7. The Explorers traveled to Ohio Northern University and met with faculty from the mechanical engineer- ing department to learn about robotics. Students were able to see first-hand ONU’s “Robotic Football Team” built for an event that the college participates in each school year. Thanks to the following volunteers for making the event a success: Kathryn Holbrook, Nilay Shah, Trey Climer, and Josh Cones. Sever volunteers and Explorers also attended the second annual Exploring Recognition dinner at the Findlay Country Club. All Explorer Posts in Hancock County were present, including Blanchard Valley Medical Explorers and many Law Enforcement Explorers Posts. The Engineering Explorers post was awarded the “Grow the Movement” award for consistent growth and performance as a unit. Congratulations to all the volunteers that made this possible.
