Cunjak, Ph.D., Biology This thesis is accepted by the Dean of Graduate Studies THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK April 2018 © William Jesse Webb, 2018 ABSTRACT The nature of precontact Indigenous fisheries and their significance to subsistence economies, seasonal mobility, and diachronic cultural change remain underdeveloped in the archaeology of the Maritime Peninsula, northeastern North America. This thesis presents an analysis of a precontact fishery from BgDs-15, a small shell-bearing site located on the northern mainland of Passamaquoddy Bay, southwestern New Brunswick, Canada. Several hundred bones recovered during the 2004 field excavations and over 3,000 fish remains from midden column and bulk feature samples were examined. Most of these fish bones are attributable to Atlantic tomcod (Microgadus tomcod Walbaum, 1792) and unidentified, tomcod-sized gadids, with some herring (Clupeidae) present. Multiple lines of complementary evidence, including taxonomic composition, relative abundances, skeletal element frequency, seasonality, and the ethnohistoric record were examined to produce a high-resolution analysis of the BgDs-15 fishery and provide insight into ancestral Peskotomuhkati settlement-subsistence strategies during the Late Maritime Woodland period (ca. 1350–550 BP). ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The process of developing this thesis has, on the one hand, been the ideal of curiosity-driven academic research and, on the other, a Sisyphean personal struggle.

    AIMS 4TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL REPORT CARD (RC4) New Brunswick Anglophone High Schools In our efforts to expand the comprehensiveness of the school report cards, we have an additional dimension in our framework this year: school-assigned grades in math and language arts. As New Brunswick (regrettably) has phased out the use of standardized testing for the Anglophone high schools, future Report Cards will see this breadth of data decline. That change is already having an impact in this Report Card, as insufficient data is available for several schools on the last round of examinations, forcing us to leave them out of the final overall rankings for the first time; Moncton High School and Sir James Dunn Academy being just two examples. Harvey High School earned the highest grade (B+) among the New Brunswick Anglophone schools. Harvey High did particularly well on the contextually adjusted scores, earning an A. Fredericton High School had the province’s second-highest ranking, earning a B. Several schools made considerable improvements over the past year, including Dalhousie Regional High School, Sussex Regional High School, Oromocto High School, John Caldwell School and J.M.A. Armstrong/Salisbury Middle School, which all improved from a C+ to a B, and Southern Victoria High School, which improved from a D to a C. Several schools declined in performance over the past year. Notably, Saint John High School fell from a B+ to a B; Cambridge-Narrows School fell from a B+ to a C+; and Sugarloaf Senior High School fell from a B to C+ as did Tantramar Regional High School, Riverview High School, and North & South Esk Regional High School.

This section provides an overview. 2.1 Overview of Canaport Energy East Marine Terminal Operations and Expanded Shipping Operations The proposed marine terminal will be located on the western shore of the Bay of Fundy, southeast of the City of Saint John and southwest of Mispec Point, New Brunswick. The marine terminal is proposed to be located adjacent to the two existing Canaport marine facilities: a single buoy mooring (SBM or mono- buoy) for offloading crude oil to the Irving Canaport facility, and the Canaport LNG terminal for import and now recently licensed for export of liquefied natural gas (Figure 1-1). The marine terminal will include pile-supported trestles and breasting/mooring dolphins for two berths that can accommodate Aframax and Suezmax tankers (Berth 2), as well as VLCC tanker types (Berth 1), with capacities of 113,300 to 348,000 m3 (710,000 to 2.2 million barrels). The two berths will be constructed simultaneously. Oil will be pumped from shore via a trestle approximately 645 m long. Berths 1 and 2 will be interconnected by a trestle approximately 380 m long. The marine terminal is expected to receive approximately 281 tanker calls per year for shipping of crude oil products originating from western Canada.
