I have been particularly enjoying our fall leaves this year and encourage you all to do so, adding to the natural parade by viewing nature’s glory from the beauty of your metal artwork (AKA, ). As we approach the holidays, I need your help in a couple ways. First, the Club needs two indi- viduals to volunteer to help run PSDC: we need a Secretary to replace Steve Walter who is retiring after several years at the position; we need an Activities Director to replace Paul and Karen John- son, who have served in several offices over the years. Thanks to all three for their great help. Both positions are open for all members to volunteer. New ideas are welcome; I encourage you to join in keeping our club active. The positions last for just one year, until the 2016 Christmas party, when we will again have elections. Please contact any officer if you are willing to fill either vacancy. There are three other actions I urge you to take. Please act on all three: complete and mail your vote on revision to our bylaws; send in reservations for the holiday party; and send in your PSDC membership checks. If you do all three together now, it will save the time and postage rather than doing them separately. Drive safe; hope to see you at the party!

The shot of the dash for the Hawk was not a Hawk. So much for accuracy in the media! Bob DeVore

We have had many picnics at the Washington County Ag Center. Several weeks ago, we visited the Transportation Museum at the site. It is a real jewel. Packed full of cars, trucks, collectables, bicycles, carriages, wagons and anything imaginable related to transportation. There are two Studebakers from the 20’s plus a child’s Studebaker wagon. It is the same wagon that we had borrowed for a Martinsburg Zone Meet many years ago. The Transportation Museum is only one of the buildings housing the Washington County Heritage Museum. They are open on Sat. and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM. and admission is free. Check them out on line and call. ( Great Volunteer help)

5 Potomac Chapter SDC Activities Planning for 2016 Meeting September 26, 2015

Fourteen chapter members met at our house to plan activities for 2016 and to enjoy a covered dish lunch. Members planning your 2016 activities were Ruth Carr, Anne and Bob Devore, Nadine and Mike Farris, Karen and Paul John- son, Shirley and Terry McDaniel, Pat and Larry Merhaut, Karl Veit and Lynda and Murray Welsh, After a very abundant and tasty lunch and pleasant socializing we discussed our activities, adding some and dropping others.

Recognizing that there are few if any activities during the winter months, Nadine Farris volunteered to set up lunch- eon meeting(s) at Barbara Fritchie’s in Frederick, Maryland as social activities earlier in the year to fill this void. Date(s) will be set later.

We reviewed our traditional chapter activities beginning with our participation at the York Swap Meet held March 10-12. It was noted that these dates DO NOT correspond to the dates for the flower and craft show also held at the York Fairgrounds. Tentative plans are to hold the chapter business meeting and dinner Friday evening March 11 at the meet hotel as this worked out well last year.

For our next traditional event, the spring tour, due to scheduling of the International Meet Sunday, June 26- Satur- day, July 2, 2016 at Warwick, Rhode Island, it was decided not to do a long weekend tour as we have in the past. Af- ter discussion of alternatives, Ruth Carr volunteered to plan a day trip to Hershey tentatively set for May 14th. We also briefly discussed the International and possible plans for driving to Warwick, Rhode Island, a 400 to 500 mile trip depending on starting point and routes followed. .

The Orphan Car Tour has been traditionally held on the first Saturday in June. Even though Steve White is our chapter representative on the board and Steve Geiger has volunteered to help, the tour may not happen if more clubs don’t step up to help. We will follow this as more is known.

In recent years our Spring Picnic date has fallen on the Sunday immediately after the Orphan Car Tour. We will avoid having two car events on the same weekend by moving the picnic to the following weekend tentatively on Sunday June 12th. We will also have a different location. Terry McDaniel volunteered to set up the picnic at the McDaniel’s church in Hedgesville (WV) where they have a nice pavilion, good parking and there is no charge for use of the facility.

With the International SDC Meet usually held in the summer, we have not planned summer activities. However, in 2016 we will try to revive the former practice of having a “Fun Day”, a one-day event where we caravan to a location for a picnic or a similar activity. A visit to the National Capital Trolley Museum was suggested. More about that later.

Regarding our traditional fall picnic, it was decided that with so many activities in September and October, we would move it up to August 28. Karen Johnson volunteered us to have the picnic at our place near Martinsburg. We will also feature the entrée, fried chicken, provided by the club as we did in a few years past. Cost and funding is yet to be deter- mined.

We do plan to have a Fall Tour. Murray Welsh volunteered to set up a weekend trip (three days, two nights) to Luray, Virginia. Tentative dates are September 16 – 18.

(Continued on pg. 7 6 (continued from pg. 6

With having separated our Fall Picnic from the same weekend as International Drive Your Studebaker Day always on the second Saturday of September, this year on September 10, 2016, we will plan an International Drive Your Stu- debaker Day Activity. Tentatively we will drive our Studebakers to the Warrenton area (possibly at the Flying Circus at Bealton or possibly a tour a private airplane collection near Warrenton)

It is planned that our Holiday Party will be held at The Inn at Charles Town as it has been for the past several years. The planned date is Sunday, December 18.

Watch for the established dates in the Chapter Activities section of the Commander and in the What’s Happening sec- tion of Turning Wheels.
