It was an unconventional activity for a long-term care centre, but everyone who took part in the first-ever beer tasting at Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre agreed that the first batch of beer brewed by residents was a resounding success! The red fruity beer was brewed by a group of fifth floor residents known as “The Group of 8”. Maimonides Rec- reational Therapist Kim Weippert formed the group with the intent of sparking the interest of younger residents. The group researched beer brewing processes online and decided on a “red, fruity” brew. They were coun- selled by a former student in the recreation department process and how pleased they were with the final result. who had brewed beer in the past.
