From Dieppe (ferry port) Head south towards Jules Ferry Street. Turn left onto Boulevard Maréchal Joffre. Slight left onto Boulevard Georges Clemenceau. Turn right onto Normandie Sussex Avenue and at the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Breaute Avenue/D927, then at the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Canadiens Avenue/N27. Continue to follow N27 and go through 1 roundabout, then continue onto A151. A151 turns slightly right and becomes A150, continue onto N1338. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on N1338, at the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Voie Rapide S 3/N338, then continue onto Voie Rapide S 3/N138. Keep left to continue on A139. Merge onto A13. Take exit 16 towards Vernon/Pacy-sur-Eure. Merge onto D181 and at the roundabout, take the 4th exit and stay on D181. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on D181. By train

From London (St Pancras International) to Paris (): This route takes approx 3 hours.

Note: check-in for Eurostar trains at least 30 minutes before departure. From Paris (Gare du Nord) to Paris (Gare St Lazare): Transfer across Paris by either bus, train or taxi. Bus: Depart from terminus near Gare du Nord. Metro: Follow signs for RER/Metro which will lead you to Magenta station. Take RER E line (pink) one stop to the terminus Haussmann-St Lazare. Taxi: Taxi rank outside Gare du Nord station. Allow 60 minutes for any transfer. From Paris (Gare St Lazare) to Vernon: Frequent service taking about 40 to 60 minutes (average). French rail tickets can only be booked up to 60 days before your journey. Paris-Vernon trains may be busy and we recommend that you reserve a seat on both outbound and inbound journeys. By air

To Paris: Most budget airlines operate flights from the UK to Paris. From the airport transfer to Paris Gare St Lazare station for a direct train to Vernon. From Paris (Charles de Gaulle airport) to Paris (Gare St Lazare): Transfer across Paris to Gare St Lazare by either bus or train. Allow 2.5 hours for any transfer. Visit www.ratp.fr for the main public transport operator in Paris for further information (in French and English). Bus: Roissybus departs CDG every 15 minutes and stops in front of the Opéra, short walk to Gare St Lazare. Train: Take RER train line B from CDG to Chatelet-Les Halles (approx 40 minutes). At Chatelet Les-Halles follow signs for the M14 line, which leads you to Chatelet station (approx 5 minutes walk). Take M14 line to Gare St Lazare (approx 3 minutes).

By ferry

There are Channel crossings to France for car and foot passengers from Dover, Folkestone, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth and Newhaven. Most direct routes to Vernon are Portsmouth- Le Havre crossing on Brittany Ferries (website: www.brittany-ferries.co.uk), or Portsmouth-Le Havre or Newhaven-Dieppe on LD Lines (http://www.ldline.co.uk/). The port of Le Havre is approximately 79 miles away from Vernon and the port of Dieppe is 76 miles away. Please check latest routes directly on ferries websites. Overnight ferry: If you are travelling on the overnight ferry and will be arriving in Vernon on the Sunday morning, go directly to the hotel reception. The Reception staff cannot guarantee that a bedroom will be available for you on arrival but will do their best to have a room ready for you as soon as possible.

Catering

The first meal provided is lunch on Sunday, the last meal provided is breakfast on Saturday.

Meal times for the duration of the school are usually, Breakfast 07:30-08:30, Lunch 12:15- 13:30, Dinner 19:00-20:00. You will be given more up to date information about arrangements for the meals when you register.

A vegetarian choice will be offered at each meal. Registration

Room keys should be collected from the Hotel Reception before registering. You are asked to arrive on Sunday between 14:00 and 18:00 and go to the Open University registration desks near the reception. Please bring your completed registration form with you to registration.

Accommodation

Teaching accommodation is in a block with level access. The teaching block is approximately 200 metres and dining areas approximately 150 metres from the main accommodation.

All bedrooms are single occupancy, en-suite (washbasin, bath/shower and toilet) bedrooms. They are typical of a 3-star hotel and are basic but clean. All rooms are equipped with a TV and free access to basic hotel Wi-Fi but connection cannot be guaranteed. The electricity supply is 220V, 2-pin socket, so you will need an adaptor for UK electrical equipment. 24- hour key and reception service is provided. Note: rooms are situated on three floors. There are no lifts in the accommodation blocks but there are rooms on the ground floor. You must vacate your room by 10:00 on the Saturday. You may leave your luggage in the storage room of the hotel. A ticket will be issued when luggage is left and this ticket must be handed in when collecting luggage.

Additional nights

Overnight accommodation may be available for students who arrive on the Saturday prior to the start of the residential school or wish to stay for an additional night at the end of the residential school. However, this additional night is only available on request and students must contact the venue directly to book the accommodation. The cost for an additional night is payable by cash or credit card at the hotel reception. The accommodation is available on a

room-only basis with no meals included. Students cannot stay for more than 8 nights in total (including period of residential school) at Mont Vernon.

Living off-site

Residential schools are intensive academic programmes that typically run from 09:00 to 21:00. To get the most out of your school we recommend that you are fully resident. If you wish to stay in accommodation off-site, please contact the Residential Schools Team. There is no rebate on your module fee unless you have children under two years of age and incur extra accommodation costs by living off-site, in which case you will receive a partial rebate. Please note that it would be virtually impossible to live off-site if you do not have your own transport.

Family and pets

Family members or friends may not stay in accommodation booked by the Open University. No pets are allowed on site, except for guide dogs.

Internet access

Basic hotel Wifi internet access is available in the hotel, including in the student accommodation rooms but the connection cannot be guaranteed.

Facilities on site

Resources room: Salle de documentation is open for the duration of your residential school. Full details of the opening times will be displayed on the notice board.

Bars: The hotel bar will be open throughout the residential school period. Opening times will be displayed in the bar. Nearby: Vernon town centre is just a 5 minute drive away.

Travel insurance, medical insurance and visas

We recommend that you take out travel insurance for the duration of your school. If you are attending a school outside your normal country of residence, you must take out adequate medical insurance before attending the school. If you need a visa for travel, it is your responsibility to apply for and obtain it. Residents of the European Economic Area are entitled to the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). UK residents can apply for an EHIC at the Post Office, online: www.ehic.org.uk or by phone on +44 (0)845 606 2030. The EHIC entitles you to free or reduced-cost medical treatment deemed necessary during your stay.
