  • Logo Isotta Fraschini

  • Story of the Alfa Romeo Factory and Plants : Part 1 the Early Portello
Story of the Alfa Romeo factory and plants: Part 1 The early Portello Factory Patrick Italiano Special thanks go to Karl Schnelle, Indianapolis, USA, for his patient proofreading and editing of the English version of this text Over the last few years, we have had to deal with large changes in Alfa Romeo-related places and buildings, as we witnessed the destruction of the old Portello factory, step by step in the late 80s, and also the de-commissioning of the much more modern Arese plant. Sad tales and silly pictures of places and people once full of pride in manufacturing the most spirited cars in the world. As reported by historians, it has long been – and still is for few – a source of pride to belong to this “workers aristocracy” at A.L.F.A.. Places recently destroyed to make place for concrete buildings now containing commercial centres or anonymous offices, places where our beloved cars were once designed, developed and built. It’s often a mix of curiosity and thrill to have the chance to look behind the scenes and see into the sanctuary. Back in 1987, when the first part of Portello was being torn down, Ben Hendricks took us on a visit to the Portello plant in Het Klaverblaadje #40. That was, as Jos Hugense coined the title 15 years later, the “beginning of the end”. Today, one can see Alfas running on the Fiat assembly lines along with Fiat Stilos and at best Lancia Thesis. These Fiat plants are no longer the places where distinguished and passionate brains try to anticipate technical trends five years into the future, thus ensuring that the new generation of Alfas keep such high company standards, as Ing.

  • 2017 Pebble Beach Concours D'elegance Poster
Event Calendar | Shop Tickets | Visitor's Guide We're excited to unveil the posters for the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, as well as the Tour d'Elegance and RetroAuto. Ferrari celebrates its 70th Anniversary at Pebble Beach this year, so not one but two of our posters feature prancing horses. The third poster focuses on our prewar featured marque, Isotta Fraschini. Below we share the history of the magnificent automobiles that our talented artists have depicted. We thank Barry Rowe & Tim Layzell for their fantastic work. 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Poster Artist: Barry Rowe Car: 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Touring Barchetta Initial Sketch Poster Art Final Poster The 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance poster, painted by distinguished automotive artist Barry Rowe, portrays a car that is quintessentially Ferrari— offering the best of both road and race capabilities. Illustrated on the poster, a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Touring Barchetta (chassis 0102 E) graces the competition field early one significant Sunday morning in August. The car’s first owner, Pietro Palmieri, raced it in the Giro Delle Calabrie and the Coppa Adriatica finishing first in class and a 2nd and 4th overall. It was later loaned to and raced by Bobby Baird, leading to another class win at the RAC’s famed Tourist Trophy race in Dundrod, Ireland. The Barchetta is perhaps mostknown for its appearance in the movie “The Racers,” produced by Twentieth CenturyFox in 1955 and starring Kirk Douglas. It is said that the movie’s producer, Henry Hathaway, approached Enzo Ferrari for the loan of some cars for the movie, but Enzo said “no.” Fox studios then approached Phil Hill, who helped to broker the sale of three Ferraris.

CERNOBBIO, 23 rd May 2019 Style, distinction, heritage, words that well describe two realities in the automotive world: the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and Touring Superleggera. The history of the Concorso and that of the Carrozzeria are forever intertwined with one another. Touring Superleggera has often chosen the Concorso as a privileged stage to unveil innovative prototypes, to create new stylistic trends, and to amaze both audiences and jury. The Concorso also regularly stages exquisite restorations executed by Touring Superleggera’s restoration arm for its customers. They are invariably rare and beautiful, and this year’s Maserati A6G Frua is no exception. Sciàdipersia Cabriolet Competing for the coveted Design Award in this 90th edition will be the second example of the Sciàdipersia Cabriolet , the open-top grand tourer recreating the luxury and elegance synonymous with the Golden Age of Motoring.
