2016 Press Kit 2016 Press Kit Realteam Built around the crew which claimed the D35 championship and the Bol d’Or in 2012, Realteam is a professional sailing structure. The core team is essentially made up of former young talents from the Geneva Regatta Training Centre (CER). This outfit offers a true steppingstone for these top-level sportspeople and, beyond that, for sailing sports in Switzerland by capitalising on existing assets and opening up new horizons and challenges. In 2014, Realteam became an internationally recognized team after their 3rd place in the Extreme Sailing Series. Led by skipper Jérôme Clerc, this unique project in Switzerland ambitions to race in the D35 class, but also to start, as of Mai, the GC32 Racing Tour and the Swiss Flying Phantom Series onboard new foiling cats! The Team Esteban Garcia: Realteam Founder, D35 Helm (1970), Swiss Founder and chairman of Realstone Holding SA Group, Esteban Garcia has engaged in sailing competition in 2009 in the Copa del Rey in Palma de Mallorca, he won with Realstone-TP52-Matador. Passionate about sailing, he has supported the CER team since 2011. After an amazing winning season in 2012, he founded Realteam Sailing in 2013. Jérôme Clerc: Skipper (1980), Swiss Jérôme Clerc was the director of the Geneva Regatta Training Center, for 4 years. In 2012 he led his D35 team to victory just two years after they formed. In 2013, together with Esteban Garcia, he created Realteam. The GC32 is a foiling catamaran, meaning that the hulls soar above – rather than through – the water at huge speeds: in fact, a GC32 has been recorded at 39.2 knots. Such technology is, typically, only available to America’s Cup competitors. The GC32 is, effectively, a scaled-down version of the foiling America’s Cup catamarans that raced around San Francisco Bay but – critically – it is much easier to sail and to run and it is also a whole lot cheaper! Specifications Hull Length: 32f / 10m Width of Hull: 6m Weight: 955kg Mast high: 16.5m Max Sail Area: 170m2 Crew: 5 Max speed: 39knts GC32 Racing Tour 2016 The GC32 Racing Tour is able to bring this cutting-edge, ultra-exciting racing to new audiences across the world. It’s also racing that takes place on a level playing field, with the one-design principle absolutely central to the competition’s ethos. The 2016 Tour will see a series of four-day events at venues across Europe. Where possible, racing will take place close to the shore to give spectators the best possible view of these flying machines. > 26 au 29 mai: Riva del Garda > 7 au 10 juillet: Malcesine > 3 au 6 août: Palma de Majorque > 22 au 25 sept.: Lisbonne > 13 au 16 mai: Marseille Team Palmares No races has been sailed yet 4 SUI 22 OcialOcial Partner Partner 5 Flying Phantom (2 boats) NEW in 2016 The Flying PHANTOM is a new generation of foiling catamarans. The concept is based on design work Martin Fischer has done over the past years on foils and the expertise of Franck Cammas and Groupama Sailing Team. After an extensive of different foils and rudders configurations, they came up with a combination of “L” shaped foils and “T” shaped rudders, providing pitch and heave stability in full flight but also being competitive in light winds. The carbon / epoxy hulls in combination with a carbon mast built in an autoclave result in significant weight reduction, the increased total beam improves the stability while foiling and a longer mast provides additional power. The foiling cat is the future of our sport and offer new sensations and previously unknown performance levels. Specifications Hull Length: 18f / 5.52m Width of Hull: 3m Weight: 155kg Mast high: 9.6m Max Sail Area: 46m2 Crew: 2 Max speed: 30 knts Flying Phantom Series (to be confirmed) > 23 au 24 avril: Gd Prix de Versoix > 5 au 7 juin: Gd Prix de Genève > 18 au 19 juin: Gd Prix Multicoque > 20 au 21 août.: Bol d’Or Vallée de Joux > 3 au 4 sept. : Gd Prix de Grandson Team Palmares No races has been sailed yet 6 @Realteam Extreme 40 (X40) The Extreme 40 is a 40ft catamaran, designed by Yves Loday and developed in 2005 by TornadoSport. The concept was to bring the sailing to the public and not the other way round. The origins of the Extreme 40 are the Olympic Class Catamaran, the Tornado – essentially the Extreme 40 is a scaled-up version of the Tornado, it is just twice as big and incredibly fast. The X40 is a simple easy to sail, light weight, full carbon fibre weapon. The boat will fit inside a normal 40ft shipping container. The Extreme 40 is the new generation of mid size sports catamarans sure to set the standard for exciting inshore sailing. Specifications Hull Length: 40f /12.191m Width of Hull: 7.92m Weight: 1’250kg Mast high: 18.9m Max Sail Area: 180m2 Crew: 5 Max speed: 28 knts X40 program 2016 The boat will only be use for the Team to practice. 30 days of training are planned in our winter base in Barcelona. The team will compete in the D35 Trophy and the GC32 Racing Tour. It’s the beginning of a new era! @Realteam 2015 Realteam accomplished his fifth consecutive season in a row; with two “Gd Prix Podium” and one memorable victory in the “Gd Prix Alinghi” on the Lake Geneva. This victory was the 10th of Realteam D35 and the 24th podium. Realteam finished 5th overall. A great track record! @Loris Von Siebenthal 10 2014 The Realteam Swiss sailing squad wrapped up a magnificent 2014 with four Acts Podium which was enough to put them on the third step of the season championship podium; An historical result as Realteam finished in front of the best Americas Cup Team as Team New Zealand, Ben Ainslie Racing and Groupama Team France. Another excellent result to add to their second place at the Vulcain Trophy on Lake Geneva. @Loris Von Siebenthal 2013 With a view to developing the Realstone Sailing team and continuing the adventure, the Realteam professional sailing squad is created under the leadership of Esteban Garcia, founder and president of Realstone SA. Realteam, led by skipper Jerome Clerc enters the Extreme Sailing Series and finishes fifth overall in its opening season and achieves a respectable third place at the Vulcain Trophy. @Calixte Ch.Pfahl 11 2012 The Realstone Sailing Decision 35 team dominates the season, winning the prestigious Bol d’Or Mirabaud, the Geneva-Rolle-Geneva and the Vulcain Trophy. The sailing team tops the podium throughout the year and their excellent track record opens the door to professional sailing. @Calixte Ch.Pfahl 2011 Realstone SA sponsors the young Race Training Centre sailors’ first season on the Decision 35. They make a grand entrance to the elite circuit winning their first Grand Prix against well-known and highly experienced lake sailors and finishing fifth overall. Esteban Garcia, founder and president of Realstone SA, initiated the partnership, instigated by current Realteam Sailor Bruno Barbarin.

The first leg is the St Helena Cup, followed by two very innovative courses the following weekend featuring optional simultaneous starts at either north or south of the river. The northern and southern courses overlap so both fleets will cross paths several times. The concept of these courses is the brainchild of Past Commodore Richard Jenkins and promises to be a lot of fun. The final weekend of the Spring Series will include the MCC triangles on Sunday the 23rd October. For the cruisers, THERE ARE SHORTENED COURSES, so find a crew and come sailing with the race fleet! OMR VIDEO The edited video of the OMR Review Committee information meeting is finally completed and is now available on the MYCQ website. Thanks to Sean for capturing the essence of the meeting, but a big thanks also to the OMR Committee members Alasdair Noble, Mike Hodges and Geoff Cruse for their easily understood presentation detailing the amendments to the OMR Rule.

  • 'Flying' Boat 23 May 2015, by Veronique Dupont
French adventurer seeks Pacific record with 'flying' boat 23 May 2015, by Veronique Dupont shallow waves off the coast of San Pedro, just south of Los Angeles. This is Thebault's first journey in three months on the ship that set a speed sailing record of over 50 knots in 2009, and now he is ready to attempt to best a crossing mark: reaching Hawaii from the City of Angels in under 4.19 days. "We want that record," the fiery and passionate Frenchman said. A key to that goal is to keep the Hydroptere intact. It's broken down four times. "The first challenge is to keep the structure," said Alain Thébault of France, skipper of the "Hydroptère" the sailor. yacht, on a test run in Los Angeles, California on May 20, 2015 "It will work well in flight stability between 20 and 29 knots with three-meter swells," Thebault said. Skimming across the surface of the vast Pacific, Alain Thebault scans the horizon with his blue Breton eyes. He is feeling good. A record is there to be broken. "It's like a magic carpet," Thebault said aboard the cutting-edge "Hydroptere" sailboat, which he hopes to pilot halfway across the Pacific from Los Angeles to Honolulu in record time. Off the California coast under azur-blue skies, Thebault accelerated the hydrofoil supercraft to 30 knots as the 18-meter (60-foot) boat stands on three foils that claw the waves, lifting the hull fully out of the water. Alain Thébault of France stands next to the "Hydroptère" The few passengers cling to the side as they prior to attempting a record crossing from Los Angeles to experience the sensation of flying for a few Hawaii in under 4.19 days moments.

Our report, prepared for Designing Hong Kong Ltd., examines this imbalance from the marine perspective. We audited the 50km of waterfront twice and conducted interviews with major stakeholders to assess necessary improvements to land/water interfaces and to provide recommendations on improvements to the land/water interfaces with the goal of making Victoria Harbour a truly “living” harbour. ii Acknowledgements Our team would like to thank the many people that helped us over the course of this project. First, we would like to thank our sponsor, Paul Zimmerman, for his help and dedication throughout our project and for providing all of the resources and contacts that we required.

  • The Foil Alphabet
© Fred Monsonnec for the blog “Foilers!” - https://foils.wordpress.com/ 04/04/2015 The foil alphabet This is the English version of a French article, published in October 2014 on the blog "Foilers". This translation would not have been possible without the help of my friend Nicholas Waller, an independent English teacher and translator with a website at http://www.centpourcentanglais.com (traducteur français-anglais et prof d’anglais indépendant). Open your books, no talking. Repeat after me: C, E, J, L, O, S, T, U, V, Y are the different types of foils that currently exist. Well done! In 2008 I wrote an article about the two main families of hydrofoils, “V-foils and T-foils". Since that article, new letters have emerged or come into wider use. It is now time to update the foil alphabet! Especially since it’s always possible for new forms to appear. After a century of development, we are really in the "Age of the Hydrofoil." You, over there, at the back of the classroom near the radiator, do you want to take off later? Well, joking aside, I’m playing the professor without being one (or an engineer) and this article certainly contains errors, so all comments are welcome. For each type of foil, you will find in this article: . A little history . Some examples of boats equipped with that kind of foil (for hydrofoils, foilers and foil-assisted multihulls, see my definitions in the appendices at the end of this article) . A diagram. I try to show the forces generated: Lift and lateral resistance (resistance to leeway, or lateral plane).

I can’t emphasize enough the importance of a good attendance at the meeting. The future strength of MYCQ is dependent on the support and shared contributions from all members, whether or not you are serving on a committee or sub- committee. There are exciting times ahead for our club. We are all very much aware of the growing multihull ownership within the yachting fraternity. Our challenge is to offer a diverse range of products (fun experiences) to those owners and crew so that they will be attracted to MYCQ. The more ideas that are floated, the more likely that we will find the right formula to grow. So come to our meetings and contribute! It has been an honour to serve as Commodore of MYCQ again this past year. I am very grateful for the support of so many members during that time, and of course, there have been a few who have served the club with distinction.
