During the early war years, not only did these councils become inactive, but the Student Union also dissolved under the centrifugal forces of the ongoing political strife and LU’s fragmentation. What remained until present, are student coun- cils on the branch level, whose function is to represent the students towards the pro- fessors and the administration, and to organize students’ campus activities, such as holiday celebrations etc. (al-Amin,
